A Gift From Reb Moishe Feinstein To Reb Moshe Reichman

The רמ"א או"ח תרצ"ה:ב writes that Men should be sending משלוח מנות to men and women should be sending to women and not vice versa. Having men sending משלוח מנות to women might create a problem of ספק קידושין if it was sent to a single woman [אלמנה]." The ערוך השלחן adds an additional reason for not sending משלוח מנות to the opposite gender because by sending gifts to each other brings to improper קירוב דעת (close relations) Rav Y.S. Elyashiv & R.S.Z. Auerbach zt"l  both hold that  a man or a woman may send משלוח מנות to a husband & wife or family with both genders. A מעשה רב from R. Moishe Feinstein zt"l. R. Moishe presented his Igros Moishe to Mr Moishe Reichmann zt"l and to his wife Mrs Leah Reichmann. (He inscribed both names in the Sefer)

The seventh & the eighth of אדר The גמרא ב"ב ט"ו ע"א asks  who wrote the last eight פסוקים in the Torah (וימת שם משה) and answers two Tirutzim. The זהר has a third answer. "משה was נפטר and Hashem brought him back to life. משה wrote then the last eight פסוקים, and died again." The מלבים* has a beautiful  פשט on the פסוק “תורת ה' תמימה    ”-The Torah is complete  – “משיבת נפש”- because Hashem brought back the  (נפש (נשמה of משה to write and complete the last eight  פסוקים in the Torah.   *With this זהר we might be able to answer  Tosfos (Menachos 30a)  Kushya. "How could Moshe have died Shabbos at Mincha time when that year the 7th of Adar was on a Friday." It is possible that Moshe died on Friday the 7th of  Adar. He was brought back  to life and wrote the 13  Sifrei Toras on Friday. He  died again on Shabbos the  8th of Adar. (אמבצי) *I couldn't find it in the Malbim Riddle What does ח' אדר have in common with ה' אייר?

המן בן המדתא was not the son of המדתא   The ירושלמי יבמות פ"ב ה"ו says, המן could not have been the son of  המדתא בן המדתא means Haman the evil person, a descendant of Hamdasa the evil person. Hamdasa lived 13 generations before Haman. Between the various נוסחיות in מס' סופרים פי"ג & the תרגום שני we have 4 possible names for Haman's  father כוזא - ביזא- סרח- סדא

The (פרי מגדים (א"א תקנ"א:ב writes that משנכנס אב starts
with the מולד.

Probably the same would also apply for משנכנס אדר that it
should start with the מולד.

However, there is no such Halacha in Rambam or
Shulchan Aruch of  משנכנס אדר מרבין בשמחה*

What's for supper tonight? YES : Cabbage with Rice. Wine NO : Meat, Lentils, Chumus, Water.  ? : Legumes The רמ"א תרצ"ה:ב  writes to eat " מאכל זרעונים" (seeds) on Purim. The מקור חיים writes it should be a Chashuva food, therefore he recommends "rice"  The בן איש חי פ' תצוה writes to eat legumes. The דברי יציב (Klausenburg Rebbe zt"l) writes "We have no such  Minhag of legumes (מאכל זרעונים) perhaps we don't eat it because it is a מאכל אבלים". He writes that we fulfill the מאכל זרעונים by eating cabbage. From the רמב"ם כלאים פ"א ה"ח it seems all vegetables (ירקות) are considered זרעונים The משנה ברורה writes to eat the זרעונים on  the  first night. The משנה ברורה (Shar Hatzion 695 sk 12) quotes the כל בו "Some do not to eat meat* on the first night of Purim not to confuse it with the Seudas Purim." The מערבית (Yotzros) for Purim in מחזור ויטרי** it says "Cursed is the man who raises his hands to drink water -who eats ground beans- who eats lentils [on Purim]"  * The Chasam Sofer writes, The Minhag is to eat veal on Purim & not beef . זכר לעגלה ערופה **It is a very strange מערבית called "ליל שיכורים" probably not to be taken seriously. (even though mentioned by a ראשון)

Kalir follows the Yerushalmi

The קרובץ לפורים is on every Bracha of the שמונה עשרה
except on the Bracha “את צמח”.

Some claim the reason for this is because all the wars were
fought by מלכות בית דוד except for מלחמת עמלק
which was fought by the grandchildren of Rochel.

Mordechai was מתקן for Shaul Hamelech's war on אגוג.
Therefore we don’t mention the נס when saying
"את צמח דוד ."

The truth is, קרובץ, were written not only for Purim.
There are קרובץ for Hoshana Rabah,17th Tamuz,
10th Teves, and 9thAv. They all have no קרובץ
on את צמח.

The real reason:

The פייטן for קרובץ was R, Elazar b Hakalir.
In his פיוטים, he generally follows the Yerushalmi
over  Bavli.

According to the Yerushalmi, (& Tosefta) the
Bracha of את צמח and וירושלים עירך, are combined
into one Bracha. (18 Brachos includes ולמלשינים)

Hence, no קרובץ for  את צמח

fasting on י"ג אדר

The fast day of תענית אסתר* on the 13th of Adar
is not mentioned in בבלי or ירושלמי. It was
instituted by the Gaonim. (The first mention
of תענית אסתר is in the שאילתות דרב אחאי גאון)

Before they abolished the  מגילת תענית
it was forbidden to fast on the 13th of Adar 
because the day before or after the
Yomim Tovim mentioned in מגילת תענית
(Purim Chanuka etc,) were also included
as the days forbidden to fast.

The רא"ש quotes the ר' תם  "The only  סמך  (minor
source) for fasting is from the Gemoro Megilah 2a
that says י"ג זמן קהלה לכל היא The ר' תם explains
they gather to say Selichos because of the fast day".


*not to be confused with the three days fast in Nissan mentioned in the Megillah.

משנכנס אדר מרבין בשמחה- The Adar Matzav

משנכנס אדר מרבין בשמחה הרוצה שיחכים יעסוק בדיני ממנות Gavriel the Gevir (rich man) lost all his money. As time went by, the bankers, investors, Meshulachim etc. stopped coming to him. Gavriel complained and said "I can understand why they don't visit me anymore. I have no money for them. But why all the people that need my advice why have they stopped coming? I only lost my money and not my שכל (brains)" Perhaps this is Pshat (ע"פ דרך הצחות) in the last Mishna in Bava Basra הרוצה שיחכים if you want to become a smart man,  יעסוק בדיני ממנות then go into business and make a lot of money.אמבצי

Today is a special day

Today the 12th day of Adar is a special day. It's called יום טריינות. It's only because of the Chasidim we don't celebrate anymore 

this special day.

In Meseches Sofrim (14th Perek) it says that the Minhag is to read the Megillah the first two Motzei Shabbosos before Purim.

The first  Motzei Shabbos in Adar you read till בלילה ההוא. The second  Motzei Shabbos (tonight) you start from  בלילה ההוא

till the end.

It is unknown the reason or the source for it.

The Gemoro (Ta’anis 29a ) In the name of Rav

it was said, "the same way, when

the month of Av comes in, you reduce with Simcha,

so too when the month of Adar comes

in you add with Simcha".

The Rambam and Sh. Aruch bring the Halacha of

משנכנס אב ממעטין בשמחה

They do not** mention משנכנס אדר מרבין בשמחה

The obvious reason is, there is no such  Halacha

to be Marbeh B’simcha when Adar comes in.

The Chasam Sofer (O.Ch 160) explains the reason. 

"Since we don't Pasken like Rav that Aveilas starts on

Rosh Chodesh Av,(According to strict halacha it starts on

on Erev T.B.***), therefore we also don't Pasken

that Simcha starts on Rosh Chodesh Adar.

The Halacha in Sh. Aruch & Rambam of משנכנס אב ממעטין בשמחה 

applies to only one thing, not to build a

Binyan Shel Simcha. All other types of refraining Simchas like

eating meat, drinking wine etc. start only on Erev T.B.

On this halacha we can't say The same as when Av comes

in you are not allowed to build Binyan Shel Simcha-- so too

when  Adar comes in you may build a Binyan

Shel Simcha. Building  a binyan Shel Simcha may be done all year round not only in Adar.

There is no such Halacha of Marbim Besimcha for Adar whereas there is a 

Halacha in Rema to be Marbeh Ketzas Simcha on Lag Baomer.

It seems that a קצת שמחה mentioned in Shulchan Aruch is a greater שמחה

than a complete שמחה of משנכנס אדר that is not mentioned in Shulchan Aruch.
