Did you know? (124)

The Chasam Sofer writes about a kabala He has from his Rebbe- Reb Mendele Lilig Zt"lwho had a Kabbala  from the Shev Yakov :

"Anybody who learns between the readings of the  night time Megillah and the daytime Megillah is guaranteed to be a Ben Olam Haba"

The Secret To Acquiring Chein

לא בקשה דבר ---- ותהי אסתר נשאת חן בעיני כל ראיה אסתר ב' :ט"ו

*One acquires  חן (grace-charm) by לא בקשה דבר

The less demanding you are the more חן you will have.

Mori V'Rabi doesn't know

In Shulchan Aruch (Y.D. 283) it says One may not write a מגילה with only a
few פרשיות of the Torah.

When writing a Chumash one must write a complete Torah with all the (פרשיות - (חמשה חומשי תורה.

The ט"ז writes, that being it is too expensive to write a complete  Torah
for children learning Chumash, therefore, Poskim were lenient and allowed
to write a מגילה with just a few פרשיות. The היתר is based on the Pasuk
עת לעשות לה' הפרו תורתך.
There are times when we don't follow the Halacha for a greater benefit.
The היתר is only for this purpose so children will be able to learn.

Mori V’rabi Harav Hagaon R. Shlomo Miller Shlita said he doesn't know of a
reason to be מתיר to write the פרשת קטרת on a קלף. He does not know why a
Segulah should be  enough of a reason of "הפרו תורתך"

The three מגילות.

The 5 Megilos?

Only מגילת אסתר do Chazal
refer to as a מגילה.
Chazal never refer the other 4 as a מגילה.

מגילת אסתר had 3 editions

1) written by the Persians*
2) written by מרדכי & אסתר**
3) written by the אנשי כנסת הגדולה***

* Esther 10:2 -
The Ibn Ezra  in Hakdama writes the Persians copied theirs
from the Megilah The Mahrsha Chulin 139b seems to
hold the Persian edition was first

**  Esther 9:29 Megilah 19a
*** Bava Basra 15a
The Brisker Rav Zt"l explains "The Megilah Mordechai wrote was
a kosher Megilah but wasn't part of כתבי הקודש The אנשי כנה"ג
rewrote it in א"י  and then became part of כתבי הקודש"

Why

On Purim morning we do קריאת התורה first and then קריאת מגילה.
It is done so rightfully because of the rule of תדיר ושאינו תדיר, תדיר קודם

Why do we Lein מגילות רות ,שה"ש & קהלת before קריאת התורה ?

Megillah Leining (מוצש"ק)

                    Megillah Leining (מוצש"ק)

In Meseches Sofrim (14th Perek) it says that the Minhag is to read the Megillah the first two Motzei Shabbosos before Purim.

The first  Motzei Shabbos in Adar you read till בלילה ההוא. The second  Motzei Shabbos (tonight) you start from  בלילה ההוא
till the end.

It is unknown the reason or the source for it.

Netilas Yodayim for the Megillah

According to the Rema (O.Ch.147:1), You should not touch the Megillah with your hands unless you did Netilas Yodayim (wash hands) before doing so.

Its Odd

In Hilchos Megillah (690 :3) it says :
"if the middle of the Megillah is missing words up to half (words) and the Ba'al Kriah read it by heart you were Yotzei".

The Mishna Verura and in Shar Hatzion discusses what If the Megillah were to be missing exactly half the words.
The Mishna Verura question is only valid if the Megillah has an even amount of words, then can you have the exact amount of words missing as not missing.

If the number of words in the Megillah is an odd number, then it's impossible to have exactly the same amount of missing words as not missing.

Supposedly according to the computer count the number of words in the Megillah are odd.

How can we explain the Heilige Chofetz Chaim, for not even taking into consideration the possibility to have an odd
amount of words in the Megillah?

We can't say that it was just a Lomdishe theoretical question because of his answer, "that it will be a Machlokes between the Rambam and the Rosh& Ran".

Mori V'Rabi Harav Hagaon Reb  Shlomo Miller Shlita said that some words in the Megillah, if they were misspelled,
does not render the Megillah Pasul. However, a misspelled word is not considered or counted as a correct word and therefore  this will change the Megillah from odd to even number of words.

It is said in the name of Harav Hagaon R, Y.S. Elyashiv zt"l that it is possible to have an even worded  Megillah if
it was written in a different language other than Loshon Hakodesh (It is a kosher Megillah #690:9)

no 5 megillos

Although there are 5 Megilos, Chazal (Bavli & Yerushalmi)

never refer to the other 4 Megilos as  a Megillah.

Only Megillas Esther is referred to, as a Megillah.

א שווערע חתם סופר

The Gemoro (Megillah 14a) says קרייתא זו הלילא. Reading the  Megillah is the saying of Hallel. We don’t need to say Hallel on Purim,  because reading the Megillah, is considered as the Hallel.

The מאירי says, if someone didn't read (hear) the Megillah, he must say Hallel on Purim. (to at least be Yotzei Mitzvas Hallel)

The Gemoro (18b) says that R.Meir didn’t have a Megillah on Purim, so he  wrote one by heart.

The Chasam Sofer (Shu”t O.Ch. 192) brings a Kushya from R. Yehuda Osad zt"l

"Why couldn’t R. Meir have said Hallel instead of writing a whole Megillah?"

The Chasam Sofer answered him a Tirutz.

My Eidem asked, that "The Kushya doesn't even begin and
why the need of the Chasam Sofer with a Tirutz?

The Gemoro only says , by reading the Megillah you were
Yotze Hallel , and not that by saying Hallel were you Yotze
Mikra Megillah."
R. Meir would not have been Yotzei Mikra Megillah by saying
Hallel and therefore had to write a Megillah.
הפלא ופלא שהוא פלא עצומה שאין עליה תירוץ ודו״ק on the two
Gedolim , R Y. Osad & the Heiliger Zaida.

One  Answer We Received To Please Help With An Answer

Thanks to all of you, who contributed to
solve the question I had no answer.
Bracha for Mikra Megillah requires standng (Birchas Hamitzvah)
Bracha for Marror may be done sitting (similar to a Birchas Hanehenin)

1.      Birchas Hamitzva requires standing*
2.      Birchas Hanehenin may(should) be done sitting
3.      A Birchas Hmitzvah, for a Mitzvah which
ends up having a Hanahas Haguf (Shechita
Challa, etc. may be done sitting.**
4.      Marror , (even raw chrain) since we dip it
in Charoses it is not Mazik we can make
a Bracha Al Achilas Marror. Therefore
there is Hanahas Haguf.(may be done sitting)

What Is Hachnasas Kallah ? -Daf Yomi-Megila 29A

הכנסת כלה
Daf Hashavua
Megillah 29a

The term  “Mitzvas Hachnasas Kallah” is used today, as raising funds to marry off a Kallah.
In Shas the words הכנסת כלה has a different meaning.

Rashi explains L’hachnasas Kallah “ללותה מבית אביה לבית חופתה “
(to accompany her from her fathers home to the house of the Chupa)

The actual Mitzva of Hachnasas Kallah is to  come and celebrate at the Chupa.

The Yosef Ometz writes:
"Mitzvah Gedolah of Hachnasas Kallah is one of the Mitzvos that have no shiur
(monetary donations do have a shiur) (Mishna Peiah 1:1 )
Most people are not makpid at all to be mekayam this Mitzvah. Even when they hear the announcement to come to the Chupa or they see the walking of the Kallah to the Chupa, They refrain to go even though they have no loss in money etc.—
Therefore it is very important to be diligent in this Mitzva Kalla (easy Mitzva) which has great rewards."

Hallel On Purim-Do You have an answer

The Gemoro (Megilah 14a) says Kriasa zu Hilila. Reading the Megillah is the saying of Hallel. We don’t say Hallel on Purim, because by reading the Megilah, we are praising Hashem.
The Meiri says, if someone doesn’t read (hear) the Megillah, he must say Hallel on Purim.

The Gemoro (18b) says that R.Mier didn’t have a Megillah on Purim, so he wrote one by heart. R. Yuda Osad zt”l asked  the Chasam Sofer (Shu”t O.Ch. 192) Why couldn’t he have said Hallel instead of writing a whole Megilla.

The Chasam Sofer answered him a Tirutz:

I can’t understand these two Gedolim. What’s the Kushya?
The Gemoro only says ,by reading the Megillah you were
Yotze Hallel ,and not that by saying Hallel were you Yotze
Mikra Megillah.
