was upset that he missed an important הלכה 
in the משנה ברורה."If someone mistakenly said המלך הקדוש
on מוצאי יום כיפור he needs not to repeat the שמונה עשרה."
He calmed down when he was told that he indeed did write
it in ביאור הלכה ס' תפ"ז

The Midrash* writes about a tailor who bid on
Erev Yom Kippur for the only fish in town.

He bought the fish at an inflated price of 12 Dinars.
When he cut open the fish he found in it a valuable
diamond that supported him for the rest of his life.

Two Halachos-One Story For Yom Kippur

1) The Luach Eretz Yisroel (R. H.M. Tikuchinsky) writes that on Erev Yom Kippur  when removing your leather shoes you remove the right shoe first.

2) Yom Kippur . that falls on Shabbos, You need to have Kavana when saying Mekadeish Hashabbos V'yisroel V'yom Hakipurim, the Mitzvah D'oirysa of Zochor Es Yom Hashabbos (Kiddush).

(According to the Chasam Sofer even if Y.K. in weekdays)

Shortly before the Brisker Rav's zt"l petira, Rav Shach zt"l went to visit him.

The Brisker Rav was very worried and nervous. He feared the Yom Hamisa.

Rav Shach wanted to calm him, so he quoted the Yerushalmi R.H.(perek 1 h3) "Bnei Yisroel have bitachon that Hashem will do nissim and and even if found guilty Hashem will save them".

The Brisker Rav said, only a person who worries can have Bitachon.

A person who doesn't worry, can't have bitachon.

A child who understands the danger,of crossing a busy street,

if he crosses the street with an adult he feels safe

because he has faith (Bitachon) in the adult.

If an infant who doesn't understand is carried across the busy street, he feels safe,

because he is unaware of any danger, and not because he has faith in the adult.

To be a Ba'al Bitachon you must understand  Eimas Hadin!!

Kiddush on Yom Kippur                                Making Kiddush on Yom Kippur is a מחלוקת between ר' עקיבא איגר who holds it is only a מצוה דרבנן unless it falls on a  Shabbos and the חתם סופר (Hagahos O.Ch.271) who  holds it is a מצוה דאורייתא to make Kiddush every  Yom Kippur. (even weekday) If it is a מצוה דאורייתא, one must have כוונה  in the  שמונה עשרהi on Yom Kippur night when saying ברוך אתה ה' – מקדש ישראל ויום הכפורים to be מקיים  (Yotzei)  מצות קידוש. Mori V'Rabi Harav Hagaon R. Shlomo Miller Shlita said Those who are unaware of this Halacha that מקדש ישראל ויום הכפורים is the קידוש of Yom Kippur are a מתעסק,  Mitzvos דרבנן one is יוצא even without כוונה  However if one is מתעסק he is not יוצא even מצוות דרבנן. Therefore one must know that the Bracha of מקדש ישראל is the קידוש ליום כיפורים According to the חתם סופר you must have כוונה to be יוצא קידוש when saying the Bracha of מקדש ישראל.

Why Cheshvan & Kislev?

 The Tur (O.Ch. 428) writes ,”Tishrei is always a full month (30days) and Teves is always a missing (short) month (29days)

The months alternate one month is full and the following is short.

The months of Cheshvan & Kislev are exceptions. Some years both  months are full.(שנה שלמה ). Some years both months are short ( חסרה ) and some years one is full and the other is short (כסדרה)“

The reason for this is to equalize the months. A lunar cycle is

29 days+12hours+ 793 Chalokim (Aprox. ¾ hr.)

The Levush explains why did Chazal pick Cheshvan & Kislev

to change the system of alternating full and short months.and

not any other month.

“The first opportunity we have to add or subtract from the month is on the month of Cheshvan.

We can’t do it on Nissan & Iyar  because the 50^th day of Sefirah needs to be on the 6^th of Sivan. (by adding or subtracting a day  we will have it on the 5^th or the 7^th )

From Shavuos till Yom Kippur we need to have 3x 40 days.

to commemorate the 3x 40 days from Moshe Rabeinu standing

on the mountain (Shavuos) and bringing down the Luchos on

Yom Kippur.

Chodesh Tishrei is the king of the Chodoshim and the Month

with Yomim Tovim (ירח האתנים )  we can’t make it a חסר .

Therefore the first opportune time is on the month of Cheshvan.

The (שיטה מקובצת (נדרים כ"ג writes that the origin of the כל נדרי goes back to the אנשי כנסת הגדולה. Of all the Tefilos & Piyutim in the entire Machzor, the most problematic and unclear נוסח is the כל נדרי. The לבוש suggest that individuals should say his corrected version quietly and not rely on the Chazan's (Machzor's) Nusach which has no meaning and is like a bird's chirping.  For some reason, we don't follow the לבוש and stick to the נוסח in the מחזור even with all its faults.

(dedication of the מזבח seven days before סוכות)  The לבוש adds another reason. Hashem doesn’t count  the חטאים until the first day Succos. * Now, we can understand the סוד of a Gut Kvittel

It is preferable not to use hand sanitizers on Yom Kippur.

The sanitizers contain oils glycerine etc. It might be
considered סיכה.

It is preferable to use rubbing alcohol or hydrogen
peroxide. They don't contain oils etc.

Using alcohol etc. is considered רחיצה להעביר זוהמא
washing to remove dirt (germs) which is allowed.

The גאון holds the היתר of להעביר זוהמא won't apply
to סיכה. Being סיכה has two reasons why it is אסור
1) תענוג  
2) סיכה כשתייה 
If only for the first reason then להעביר זוהמא would
be allowed since it's not done לתענוג.
The second reason of סיכה כשתייה won't allow 
להעביר זוהמא because drinking is אסור even when
it's not a תענוג.

The Blame Game

 During the Israeli war of independence in 1948-9, morethan 6,000 Yidden were killed which was 1% of the entire Jewish population. 

There were tens of thousands more who were wounded.

Someone reported this to the Brisker Rav Zt"l and added that this all happened because of the Zionist who declared and created an illegal State which is against the Torah.

The Brisker Rav answered him " When יונה הנביא was on the boat, with the other passengers who were all עובדי עבודה זרה, it never entered his mind that the fault lies with them.

He immediately said כי בשלי הסער הגדול הזה עליכם

תפילת זכה

 

תפילת זכה part 1 תפילת זכה  is less than 200 years old. It is the most recent and the last addition ever added to our Machzor. The original תפילה was printed in the second edition (1819) of the ספר חיי אדם. At a later date, a pamphlet with the תפילה was printed. At  an even later date it was incorporated and printed in the Machzor. Since then almost all Ashkenazi Yidden, Nusach Ashkenaz & Nusach Sefard, Chasidim & Misnagdim accepted this תפילה and say it before & after כל נדרי. However, Minhag Chabad is not to say it. The reason probably is because R Avraham Danzig was a Misnaged. There are others who they too don't say it because the חיי אדם writes to have adopted this תפילה based on the ספר חמדת הימים. The ספר חמדת הימים is a controversial  Sefer. The יעבץ and others claim that it was authored by נתן העזתי (Nathan from Gaza) The נביא שקר  of שבתאי צבי ימ"ש. The truth is that in חמדת הימים there is no תפילה similar  to the תפילת זכה. The חיי אדם writes that he didn't use the חמדת הימים because it is על פי הקבלה which most  don't understand. He instead based it on ספרי קדמונים
