CHASIDISHE MAASEH told by Rav Shach zt"l

Rav Shach zt”l  said, he heard this story from the Strikover Rebbe zt”l :

A Stoliner Chosid came to the Tchortkover Rebbe zt”l  and asked him permission to daven loud (Minhag Stolin).
The Rebbe said to him, the Minhag in Tchortkov is not to daven aloud.
He quoted to him Maamorei Chazal that are against loud Davening, and forbade him to be Meshane the Minhag Hamkom.
The Stoliner Chosid came to Shul . He managed to hold himself back and davened the whole Pesukei Dezmria quietly.
By the time  he reached Nishmas,  he couldn’t hold himself back and started screaming on top of  his lungs  “Nishmas Kol Chai !!!!“.
After the Davening, the Chosid went over to the Rebbe and wanted to apologize.  Before he got a chance to open his mouth the Rebbe told him how beautiful his Nishmas was, how he enjoyed the loud Davening.

The Chosid was flabbergasted,  didn’t the Rebbe say that it is wrong to daven aloud in his Shul.
The Rebbe explained to him, ” If you come and ask  on Wednesday to  change on Shabbos the Minhag Hamokom  , then the answer is,   it is wrong to do so.
However if during davening you can’t  control yourself , you get so excited   with your davening ,then those are the most inspiring and beautiful  Tefilos

Two Halachos-One Story For Yom Kippur

1) The Luach Eretz Yisroel (R. H.M. Tikuchinsky) writes that on Erev Yom Kippur  when removing your leather shoes you remove the right shoe first.

2) Yom Kippur . that falls on Shabbos, You need to have Kavana when saying Mekadeish Hashabbos V'yisroel V'yom Hakipurim, the Mitzvah D'oirysa of Zochor Es Yom Hashabbos (Kiddush).

(According to the Chasam Sofer even if Y.K. in weekdays)

Brisker Rov Zatzal

Shortly before the Brisker Rav's zt"l petira, Rav Shach zt"l went to visit him.

The Brisker Rav was very worried and nervous. He feared the Yom Hamisa.

Rav Shach wanted to calm him, so he quoted the Yerushalmi R.H.(perek 1 h3) "Bnei Yisroel have bitachon that Hashem will do nissim and and even if found guilty Hashem will save them".

The Brisker Rav said, only a person who worries can have Bitachon.

A person who doesn't worry, can't have bitachon.

A child who understands the danger,of crossing a busy street,
if he crosses the street with an adult he feels safe
because he has faith (Bitachon) in the adult.

If an infant who doesn't understand is carried across the busy street, he feels safe,
because he is unaware of any danger, and not because he has faith in the adult.

To be a Ba'al Bitachon you must understand  Eimas Hadin!!

Rav Shach's story

        מרן הרב הגאון
ר' אלעזר מנחם מן שך זצ"ל

                told the following story:

The
ר' יעקב בן *יעקב משה לורברבוים מליסא נתיבות who was in a bad marriage and suffered terribly from his  wife, tried divorcing her but she refused to  accept a גט.

R. Akiva Eiger zt”l got involved and tried
to  convince her to accept a גט. She responded,
“ My husband is such a great and holy man. I would  never willingly accept a גט from such a great צדיק.”

Rav Shach commented ” Even though she recognized his greatness and holiness she still made him צרות גדולות עד לשמים .”

Similarly, said Rav Shach “We find in the פסוק
ונברכו בך כל משפחות  All of mankind  will recognize the greatness of Avraham Avinu
(כלל ישראל)  yet there will be ומקללך   ,  haters of
Avraham Avinu who would  curse and
try harming his children.

Story told by Rav Shach zt"l

ממשה עד משה לא קם עוד כמשה
Since Moshe Rabeinu brought down the Torah, Never in history  has there been a person who  together with his Mishpocho supported and benefited so many Lomdei Torah and funded so many Mosdos Hatorah, as Reb Moshe Yosef Reichmann zt”l . יהי זכרו ברוך
יום השנה כ"א מרחשון

Reb Baruch Ber Zeldovich together with his brother in law & business partner R.Ber Pinnes were one of the greatest Ba’alei Tzedaka in Russia during the 19th century. They supported most Yeshivos & Mosdos Hachesed in Russia.
Reb Chaim Soloveitchik zt"l once came to Minsk to collect funds for the Volozhiner Yeshiva, which was in a desperate financial situation. Reb Baruch Ber donated the full amount the Yeshiva needed. Being that his partner -R' Ber was out of town, so R. Baruch Ber took the whole sum from his own personal account.

When Reb Ber Pinnes returned, he claimed that he had been a partner with R. Baruch in every venture for many years, and therefore, the saving of the Volozhin yeshiva was an investment that he was entitled to buy into equally with R.Baruch. This argument  ended  at a  Din Torah. (The outcome of the Din Torah is unknown.)

Once a bribe was needed for an anti-Semitic minister in the government . R. Baruch Ber  donated 30,000 Rubles for the cause and risked  himself by being the one who handed the money (bribe) personally to the minister.
Years later R.Baruch Ber became a Yored Minechosov. He lost all his money.
When it was asked from R.Chaim Soloveitchik “ How is it possible for such a great Ba’al Tzedakah to lose his money?” R. Chaim answered with a Moshol.
A father who sent away his son to university  to study at  a specific faculty . After the son  successfully completed the course, his father  sent him to a different department to study a new & different  course.
So too, explained R. Chaim, When a person successfully completes his mission in life with flying colours
and accomplishes it in fewer years than expected from him, then HKBH gives him a new mission to fulfill. R. Baruch Ber’s new mission was to serve Hashem as a none Gvir.

Interrupting During The Shabbos Hagodol Derasha

The Teshuvas Minchas Elozor (4-45)  writes:

" in today's generation, the Minhag is not to interrupt the Rov during the Shabbos Hagadol/Teshuva Drasha.

Only in the olden days, when the Torah was beloved and children were raised to learn Torah, did they practice this Minhag, for Kavod Hatorah,to excite the hearts of the young Bachurim so they too will also send their children to learn Torah.

In our generation, Kavod Hatorah has been diminished.

We are concerned that someone will interrupt and ask questions just to antagonize the Rov. For this reason they abolished the Minhag of asking questions during the Drasha.

The Shu't Mishna Sochir (Y.D.166)  says not to interrupt because the Rov might not have an answer and will be embarrassed.

The Vayaged Yakov (Pappa) once gave a Drasha in Budapest.

Someone interrupted and asked him a question. He had no answer and walked away. He said he can't continue because the questioner is correct in his argument. Therefore  his whole Pilpul is wrong, and there is no point to continue.

A similar story is said to have happened to Rav Shach zt"l.

He walked away in middle of a Shiur.
