Four Questions For Tu Bishvat

1) Which fruit, that its Bracha is פרי העץ
if you made a האדמה on it, you were not
יוצא?

בורא נפשות.

A fruit salad consisting of 1/3 pomegranate(שבעת המינים)
and 2/3 assorted other fruits. The רוב

Halachos Pertaining To A Blue Moon

It happens once in a blue moon*

If you were waiting for the blue moon to happen, it will happen this coming Tu B'Shvat January 31, 2018. Not only will we have a blue moon but a lunar eclipse will also occur on Tu B'Shvat.

There is a little-known Halacha not mentioned in Shulchan Aruch but both the Bais Yosef and Darkei Moishe (Rema)  (on the Tur) quote the מהריל, that after a lunar eclipse one can't make Kiddush Levanah anymore even if it is less than a 1/2 month
from the Molad (about 14 days 18 hours 22 minutes)

Some calendars incorrectly claim that you can make Kiddush Levanah (in Yerushalayim) for this Chodesh Shvat until Wed
evening 8.27pm. (Israeli time)

According to the  מהריל, since the eclipse will be 7.00am New York -7.30am Toronto in the morning  Kiddush Levana may not be said
afterwards.

Harav Chaim Kanyevsky Shlita writes if need be, to say Kiddush Levanah without שם ומלכות.

*A blue moon is a rarity. When we have two full moons in a single month it's called "A BLUE MOON" It is unknown how & why it got its name. January 1st & January 31st  2018 both days will have a full moon.

CHOCOLATES FOR TU B’SHVAT

                            CHOCOLATES FOR TU B’SHVAT

Many Chasidic Rebbes have a Minhag on ט”ו בשבט to have pineapples decorating the fruit plate (some even eat it) at the Tish.

There are Poskim who say not to eat any פרי האדמה with the Tu B’Shvat fruits so as not to confuse the Rosh Hashana of

פירות האילן with פרי אדמה

It might have been more appropriate to have chocolates for Tu B’Shvat.

Many Poskim have difficulty understanding why our Minhag is to make a שהכל on chocolates when Halachically it should have been a פרי העץ

Harav Y.S. Elyashiv zt”l & Harav S.Z. Auerbach zt”l both held that the appropriate Bracha for chocolate should be פרי העץ
but since the velt (the common practice) makes a שהכל we follow Minhag Haolam and make a שהכל.

They both hold* if a פרי העץ was made on fruits and chocolates were at the table, then you shouldn't make a שהכל  on the

chocolates, being you were Yotzei with the פרי העץ.

The ספר מקור הברכה (Dayan R.G. Krausz shlita) says that The minhag of the velt is a mistake, It came about from

the שערי תשובה ר”ב ס”ק י”ט who writes to make a שהכל on שעקלדי (chocolate)

R.G. Krausz writes that the שערי תשובה  was referring to a chocolate drink and the velt mistakenly assumed he meant chocolates (solid)

R.G.Krausz holds, לכתחילה to make a פרי העץ on chocolates.

Answer To Who's On First

According to the פרי מגדים ( Pesicha Hilchos Brochos)
The correct order in ברכת שהכל is

1) Honey made from dates
2) Beer

3) all others

Who's On First

There is a דין קדימה (priority) to make the Bracha on some
fruits over others.
.etc פרי האדמה over פרי העץ - over other fruits,  שבעת המינים .e.g

When would you have one שהכל have priority over a second שהכל even if both are liked equally?

Its The Pits !

A simple way to memorize  דין קדימה
(priority in making the Bracha) on fruits of the שבעת המינים.

The fruit with fewer seeds comes first.

1) Olive - 1 pit

2) Date -  pit with line in middle looks like 2

3) Grape - 3-5 seeds

4) Fig -  seeds plus fruit

5) Pomegranate - only seeds

HAKOL BESEDER

The Satmarer Rebbe R.Yoilish zt"l used to say:
" When Israelis (Tziyoinim) say HAKOL BESEDER, they forget that at the Seder, there is also Marror ."

                           Tu Bishvat Seder

Some Mekubalim and Chasidic Rebbes have a Tu B'Shvat Seder with
some similarities to the Seder Shel Pesach.

Some claim, The origin of the Tu Bishvat Seder is from the Ari Zal.
In his Kesovim there is no mention of a Seder on Tu Bishvat.

The first one to mention this Seder is the Sefer Chemdas HaYomim.

There is a whole Perek instructing how to perform the Seder.

"Various Perakim from Tanach and Zohar are to be said. Four

cups of different wines are drunk. Mezonos and fruits are eaten. Before

each fruit you have Kavanah of a different Tziruf of the Shem Havyah."

In 1753, this Perek was reprinted as a separate Kunteres called

"Kunteres Pri Eitz Hadar"  Since then, it has been reprinted many

times.

The Sefer Chemdas Hayomim was printed without a Sha'ar Blatt.

The Ya'avetz claimed that the Mechaber was the Navi Sheker

Noson Hoazosi, the right hand man of Shabtai Zvi  Ym"s.

There were Gedolim who disputed the Ya'avetz and claimed

the Sefer was written by an unknown holy man.

The Chemdas Hayomim writes to have Kavanah at the Seder ,

" העץ הנחמד בן ישי חי על האדמה

Some claimed, this to be the same Gematria as Shabtai Zvi's
name.

(317=315+2) . Also     העץ הנחמד = 390 the same as שצ

This gave Chizuk to the side who claimed the Sefer is from

Noson Hoazosi.

The publisher of the Amsterdam edition  who was aware

of the controversy, wrote in the Hakdama

Why not to say פרשת המן

Why not to say פרשת המן

Shulchan Aruch ( O.Ch 1: 23) “It is good to say פרשת המן. So that you will believe, Parnasa is השגחה פרטית

The ערוך השלחן writes,” Our Minhag is not to say it (פרשת המן). There is no mention of פרשת המן in Shas "

The פריישה claims there is a ירושלמי (Brachos) that speaks about the Segula  of פרשת המן.” The ערוך השלחן writes

he couldn’t find this ירושלמי. (It hasn't been found since) He continues, The reason for not saying פרשת המן is threefold

a) The Parsha mentions numerous times the Bnai Yisroel's

complaints of not having food.

b) The complaints on the מן

c) The Midrash writes  Hashem said  “I don’t need  your

complaints and not your praises." (on the מן)

The (משנה ברורה (א:ס"ק י"ב writes " Someone who is a בעל תורה and has a heart to understand & learn should rather learn than to say the תחינות & בקשות printed in the Siddurim.

The כף החיים quotes from the אריז"ל, לחם חמודות, (תו"ס יו"ט) & אליה רבא who all claim that learning Torah takes precedence over saying these תפילות.

According to the רמבם*, If the sole purpose of saying the Parsha, is to have the Segulah of Parnasah, it is considered כפירה. "They make the Divrei Torah a רפואת הגוף and it isn’t but a רפואת הנפש"

The farmer explained the Selichos prayer. "This is a special prayer we say so the cows should produce lots of milk, The chickens should produce lots of large eggs. The geese should produce large fatty livers etc."[based on the tales of R. Shmuel Munkes zt"l Talmid of Baal Hatanya]

Many ads today in the Frum media, seems like they are reaching to the masses who think exactly like the farmer.

*(Hl. Avoda Zarah (Perek 11)

Why not to say פרשת המן

Why not to say פרשת המן

Shulchan Aruch ( O.Ch 1: 23) “It is good to say פרשת המן.”

(Levush) So that you will believe, Parnasa is Hashgacha Peratis

The Aruch Hashulchan writes:

Our Minhag is not to say it

There is no mention of פרשת המן in Shas

The Perisha says there is a Yerushalmi (Brachos) that speaks
about the Segula  of פרשת המן.” The Aruch Hashulchan writes
he couldn’t find this Yerushalmi. (It hasn't been found since)

He continues The reason for not saying פרשת המן is because:

a) “The Parsha mentions numerous times the Bnai Yisroel's
complaints of not having food.

b) The complaints on the מן

c) The Midrash writes  Hashem said  “I don’t need not your
complaints and not your praises." (on the מן)”

According to the Rambam*, If the sole purpose of saying the Parsha,is to have the Segulah of Parnasah, it is considered Kefirah.

"They make the Divrei Torah a Refuas Haguf and it isn’t but a  Refuas Hanefesh"

I heard from  Harav Hagaon R. Ahron Lopiansky shlita,

of  a farmer an Am Ha'aretz whose wife woke him up early in the morning to say Selichos. The husband asked her "what is this Selichos?"

His wife answered him "this is the special Tefillah we daven so that the cows should give us lots of milk and the chickens should lay every day extra large eggs."

Many of us think the same way and are not much different
than the farmer's wife. Some think, the only way to be Mekayam Mitzvahs Hafrashas Challah, one must do it together with 40 other women and have in mind a childless couple.

הלכה מפורשת בשו"עDo you know this

Which תפילה in שמונה עשרה do you say only if you Daven at home etc. and not if you Daven in Shul?

Monday, January 22, 2018

It's good to say

WHY YOU SHOULD SAY  פרשת המן

The טור and the מחבר,write in the first Siman
of the entire Shulchan Aruch " טוב לומר" (It's good
to say פרשת המן etc.)

When the טור and the מחבר both say it's good then
   it must be good.

The משנה ברורה (sk 13) quotes the בית יוסף
"The reason to say it so to believe that Parnasa
comes with השגחה פרטית." The מ"ב explains,
to believe that increase in השתדלות doesn't
   help to increase Parnasa.

Seems the reason to say it is not for the Segula
but to ingrain the proper השקפה re Parnasa

The פרישה quotes the ירושלמי in מס' ברכות
(ערוך השלחן couldn't find it and it hasn't been found
since) "Whoever says פרשת המן EVERY DAY*
will be guaranteed not to miss his מזונות. (Parnasa)

The תשב"ץ adds "ואני ערב" I am a guarantor.

Perhaps, this  Segula acts as a reward for attempting
to ingrain the proper השקפה in השגחה פרטית

Why Is So Cold This Year .What Did The Elya Rabba Say

WEDNESDAY ROSH CHODESH SHEVAT

The פרי מגדים א"א או"ח תרפ"ה quotes the אליה רבא who quotes from אייזק דרשן

" Whenever Rosh Chodesh Shevat falls on a Wednesday,  then the winter will be very cold and lots of snow. "

חיובי-שלילי

The Gemoro (Menochos 33a) says  עשאה כמין נגר פסולה
if you placed the Mezuzah like a bolt/peg it is Pasul.

The Machlokes between Rashi & R.Tam is what type of
a bolt the Gemoro is referring to. (vertical or horizontal)

The Machlokes is not which position one should place
the Mezuzah but which position not to place the
Mezuzah so that it is not כמין נגר.

All agree as long it is not positioned like a peg it is kosher.

Positioning the Mezuza at an angle is not a compromise
(doing it halfway like both) but is the proper Lekatchila
way to place it,(according to both) being a peg is never
placed at an angle.

Therefore when placed at an angle there is no need to
place two Mezuzos. It is positioned according to both
Rashi & R.Tam in the proper position.
You are יוצא ידי שניהם  by placing it at an angle

This solution won't work by Tefillin.

Placing the Parshiyos in the Tefillin the Halacha dictates
how to place the Parshiyos and not how not to place
it. Therefore by placing it at an angle both Rashi &
R. Tam will agree that it is Pasul. אמבצי

The Gaon who holds to place the Mezuzah vertically
(not angle) also holds it's not necessary to put on
R.Tam's Teffilin. In both cases since the Halacha is like

Rashi there is no need to be יוצא ידי שניהם

What's the difference?

What's the difference?

There is a מחלוקת רש"י ור"ת how to place the Parshiyos in the Tefillin and the Mezuzah on the doorpost.

 vertical or horizontal.

To be יוצא ידי שניהם the Mezuzah is placed at an
angle.

To be יוצא ידי שניהם the Medakdekim wear both
Rashi & RABEINU Tam Tefillin.

1) Why don't the Medakdekim place two Mezuzos on
each door post one vertical and one horizontal to
be יוצא ידי שניהם?

2) Why don't we place the Parshiyos in the Tefillin

at an angle to be

The Sefer מדרש פליאה (The Puzzling Midrash )  is a compilation of puzzling
statements and riddles.
Contrary to popular belief, they are not מדרשי חז"ל .They  were invented by Darshonim
who made up statements that sound illogical and then solved them.

Harav Hagaon Ovadyah Yosef זצ"ל (Yechave Da’as 5-3) quotes a מדרש פליאה and a solution
from R. Akiva Eiger zt”l

אין מניחין תפילין אלא בשבת”  You don’t put on Tefilin only on Shabbos.
The spelling of   בית שין בית תיו –are the Roshei Teivos of במקום שער במקום תפוח
Rosh is placed where there is (was) hair. Yad is placed on part of the arm where the muscles are.

The מהרש"א in מהודרא בתרא  ( Shabbos 88b) explains, the פסוק in Tehillim (119 -164)
"שקר שנאתי ואתעבה , תורתך אהבתי". I have hated falsehood and abhorred it,
your Torah I love.
Dovid Hamelech is referring to the Darshonim who fool the public with their lies. They
say over מדרשים שקרים (invented Midrashim)  and then explain the Midrash with

their lies. He only likes true Torah and not invented lies.
