Daf Hasavua Nedarim 31 b-Mila On Shabbos

          גדולה מילה שדוחה את השבת

Harav Yosef Sholom Elyashuv zt"l originally held that children born through artificial insemination may not have their Bris done on Shabbos.

In later years he changed his mind and allowed the Bris to be Doche Shabbos on such children.

Harav Ezriel Auerbach shlita explained his Shver as follows:

Based on a Rabbeinu Chananel, artificial insemination is considered Ma'aseh Nissim and therefore would not be  Doche Shabbos.

Since artificial insemination became a very common practice, it is no longer considered Ma'aseh Nissim and is Doche Shabbos.

I was wondering, recently a 60 year old woman gave birth to a boy. What would have happened had she given birth on Shabbos, would it be allowed to perform the Bris on Shabbos. (Ma"aseh Nissim).

How To Cook On Shabbos

How to cook Shabbos morning, fresh chicken soup

1) One may not cook with תולדות חמה. e.g. Cooking an egg in a pot that was heated up by the sun. (egg heated by the pot)

2) One may cook with חמה e.g. Placing an egg under the sun. (egg heated directly from the sun)

*According to Mori V'Rabi Harav Hagaon R. Shlomo Miller Shlita,

One may place food under the sun and have a magnifying glass
directed at the food (not at the pot). Since the food is being cooked directly from the sun it's בישול בחמה which is permissible on Shabbos.

All the magnifying glass does is it increases more sun onto the food.

PS: creating a fire on Shabbos with a magnifying glass is prohibited

Another Riddle From The Terumas Hadeshen

Which Melocho?

How would it be possible, someone does this Melocho on Yom Tov he is Chayav Malkos. If he does the exact same Melocho on Shabbos , not only is he not Chayav, he may go ahead and do it Lekatechila?

לז"נ האשה צארטל בת ר' אליעזר הלוי הי"ד

                                                             יום השנה ח"י מנחם

1)There are two fruits, one is attached to a tree in a Reshus Hayachid the other one is not attached to a tree but is in a Reshus Harabim
.

2)There is a Choleh  (in the Reshus Hayachid) who needs to eat the fruit.

3)On Shabbos there is no difference which fruit the Choleh is given and one is allowed to be Mechallel Shabbos Lekatechila

4)On Yom Tov one must take from the unattached fruit in Reshus Harabim (no Chilul Y.T.) and may not take from the attached fruit in the Reshus Hayachid. On Shabbos you may remove the fruit from the tree Lekatechila

On Yom Tov you may not  remove the fruit from the tree, because you can bring the cut fruit from the Reshus Harabim (no Chilul Yom Tov) If he removed the fruit from the tree, he is Chayav Malkos.

Why Is It Called Shabbos Hagodol

The Tur & Shulchan Aruch siman 430 says that the Shabbos before
Pesach is called Shabbos Hagadol. The reason is ----.
1) It is very strange that the Tur & S. A. designated a complete siman
informing us why people call this Shabbos ,"Shabbos
Hagadol" . There is not a single Halacha in the whole Siman.
2) Why do they not tell us the reason we call it Shabbos Shira, Shuvo etc.

According to Dikduk this coming Shabbos should be called Shabbos Hagedolah (not Hagadol).
Some say that that Gadol refers to the Nes (Shabbos of the Nes Gadol) or Gadol refers
to the Rav who gives the Drasha. (Shabbos of the Rav)
These are  all tirutzim  ,it really should be called Shabbos Hagedola. Shabbos Hagadol
is incorrect.
Could be,  if everybody in Klal Yisroel  has a minhag even if it is wrong ,since  it is done by
a Rabim in Klal Yisroel it becomes a Halacha in Shulchan Aruch.
This is what the Tur & Shulchan(O. Ch. 430) are trying to teach us. The Shabbos before
Pesach is called Shabbos Hagadol.

long strides (pesia gasa) on shabbos.

Weekly Daf Shabbos 113 b
Rebbie asked from R. Yishmael b.r. Yosi  if you are allowed to take long strides (pesia gasa) on shabbos.

R. Yishmael b.y. answered that even in the weekdays it is forbidden." Sheani Omer (because I R. Yishmael say)
Pesia gasa noteles echod meichameish meios mimeor einov shel odom-"
Long strides removes 1/500 of the light from the eyes.

The Ben Ish Chai writes that R. Yishmael prefaced his statement with SHEANI OMER – I
SAY .
R. Yishmael did not hear this from his father or Rebbe,he said it from his own experience.
R. Yishmael was obese and it was very difficult for him to take long strides. He assumed
that for others who are not overweight it is also strenuous.
The gematria of PESIAH GASA (bemilui- Pei= pei+ hei etc.) equals 570.  The same as
yovad echad mtav kuf.(he will lose 1/500)
