FOUR RIDDLES FOR YOUR SUKKOS TABLE

 

RIDDLE #1 Last year this branch produced אתרוגים מורכבים This year the same branch produced 100% kosher non מורכבים Esrogim. ?  ANSWER If a branch from a kosher Esrog tree was grafted to a lemon tree, the fruits (Esrogim) are מורכב (Pasul)  (yr. 1) If that same branch was removed from the  lemon tree and grafted back to the Kosher Esrog Tree  the Esrogim are Kosher. (yr. 2)* שמעתי מפי מורי ורבי הרה"ג ר' שלמה מילר שליט"א* ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Riddle #2   Husband & wife are both eating in the Sukah at the same time. The husband is not יוצא מצות סוכה & the wife is יוצא. The only reason for the difference is because  he is a זכר & she is a נקבה. ? ANSWER If someone eats in the Sukah with his table outside the Sukah he is not יוצא מצות סוכה Chazal were גוזר that he is not יוצא because he might end up eating חוץ לסוכה. Harav Hagaon R.Y.S Elyashiv Zt"l holds that the גזירת חז"ל was only for זכרים and not for נקבות. (we're not concerned if they end up eating חוץ לסוכה) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RIDDLE # 3 3) By Saying a פרק תהלים this סוכה פסולה becomes a Kosher סוכה ? ANSWER   3) A 2 walled סוכה built in a מבוי one may consider the לחי  of the מבוי as a Mechitza  (3d wall) for the סוכה  on Shabbos Sukkos only. The reason is because of מיגו. Since it is considered a Mechitza for Shabbos it is also considered  a Mechitza for the סוכה. This 2 walled סוכה is kosher only on Shabbos and not on the weekdays. Someone being מקבל שבת early and doing so by saying מזמור שיר ליום השבת changes a non-kosher סוכה into a kosher one. O.Ch. 630 : 7 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Riddle#4 By Saying a few words this סוכה פסולה becomes a Kosher סוכה. ? ANSWER   A סוכה, higher than 20 אמות is פסול. If you place straw etc. on the floor of the סוכה and thereby reduce the height, it is kosher, only if you are מבטל בפה the straw to the floor. You must verbalize & say, that you plan to keep the straw there.  O. Ch. 633 – 4

Rashi onזרע וקציר וקור וחם וקיץ וחרף(Breishis 8:22),
quotes the Gemoro in Bava Metzia 103b.

There are six seasons in the year, each lasting for two months.
The first season of Zera starts in Chatzi (15) Tishrei.

The Gemoro says that the Na'anuim(shaking of the Lulav)
rids the world,from harmful winds and dew. TheTorah said
the Lulav should be taken on the first day of  זרע

the planting season.

This coming סוכות will be pain-free פטור מן המצטער. All the צרות & צער of כלל ישראל will end abruptly.  The ישועות ורפואות will  אי"ה arrive כהרף עין and we will all have a true זמן שמחתינו אמן כן יהי רצון

Source To Bite It Off

The Sefer צאינה וראינה authored by R. Yakov b Yitzchok Ashkenazi  - (1550-1624) was geared specifically for women who didn't understand Loshon Hakodesh.
It is a collection of beautiful Midrashim and some Halachos in Yiddish.

Up until  80 years ago it was the most popular Sefer (after Siddur & Tehillim)  Yiddish speaking women possessed.
Illiterate women, organized a "Zogerrin". One who would read the צאינה וראינה   for their group.

In a letter promoting the Bais Yakov Schools, the Chofetz Chaim writes, "the need for
Bais Yakov is also because many women stopped reading  the צאינה וראינה on Shabbos".

The first Mokor (source) where it is mentioned for pregnant women to bite off  from the Esrog is in the צאינה וראינה.

The Mekor Chaim (Bachrach) quotes from the צאינה וראינה to bite off the עוקץ (not the Pitum)
The Mekor Chaim also praises this Minhag.

The Minchas Elozor writes, women should not bite off the Pitum on Hoshana Rabah.

According to Chazal, (.כתובות ס"א) Pregnant women who eat Esrog will have
nice smelling children (no mention of easy childbirth)

ז"נ ר' יונה זצ"ל בן ר' עקיבא שליט"א  יום השנה כ' תשרי - שבת חוה"מ סוכות  נפטר בלי זרע של קיימא,- ולמצוה רבה יחשב למי שילמוד משניות לטובת נשמתו סגולה The מקור חיים(Bachrach) writes "he heard that the הושענות are a protection for travelers". Perhaps, it might be a good idea to keep the הושענות all year round in the car and or in the suitcase.

According to Tosfos (Shabbos 88a & Ta'anis 29b) תפוח is not an apple but an Esrog.

The  Amei Ha'aretz claim that Eve gave to Adam an apple. There is no mention anywhere in Chazal that it was an apple.

The mistake might have started with
the שיטה in Midrash (בראשית רבה פרשה ט"ו פסקה ז) that says it was an Esrog תפוח and incorrectly translated it to be an apple.

Perhaps, according to Tosfos, On Rosh Hashanah, we should have dipped the Esrog in honey instead of the apple.

GEDOLIM PICTURES FOR THE SUKAH



The שו"ת שלמת חיים רנ"ז (R. Y.Ch. Zonenfeld zt"l)
was asked if one may hang pictures of Gedolim
in the Sukah being the יערות דבש and ב"ח hold 
one may not possess pictures of humans because
a רוח הטומאה hovers over the picture.

Would this apply even on Gedolim pictures?

R.Yosef Chaim Zonnenfeld  answered that those who hang
Gedolim pictures in their homes should
do so in the Sukah as well.

A Sukah, higher than 20 Amos is Posul.

If you place straw etc. on the floor of the Sukah and thereby reducing the height, it is kosher, only if
you are Mevatel Bepeht he straw to the floor.( you must verbalize &say, you plan to keep the straw there)
