There is a מנהג not to stand facing the בעל קריאה — in front of the בימה — when he leins the תוכחה.

A second מנהג is that the עולה before the תוכחה leaves the בימה immediately after his Aliyah, without waiting for the conclusion of the next Aliyah.

In many shuls throughout the year, when the Gabai wishes to give an Aliyah to the בעל קריאה, he does not call out “יעמוד פלוני בן פלוני”, since the בעל קריאה is already standing at the בימה. Instead, he simply signals to him to take the next Aliyah.

From here developed the מנהג that the בעל קריאה receives the Aliyah of the תוכחה — because, practically, there is no need to call him up.

Originally, however, the Minhag was quite different: it was written explicitly in the contract that the שמש must take the Aliyah of the תוכחה.

✦ ✦ ✦

The רמ״א writes that for this Aliyah one should call up “יעמוד מי שירצה” — without mentioning a name — meaning: whoever is willing to accept this Aliyah.

The מקור חיים writes that “מי שירצה” is a חיוב to be עולה on the first day of ראש השנה & שבועות. Many mistakenly think that anyone who wants becomes a חיוב. This doesn't make any sense. But he is referring to the person who was willing to be עולה; the תוכחה he is being compensated for by receiving a עלייה on the first day of ראש השנה and on the first day of שבועות. on the first Yom Tov that follows. the תוכחה

Forgive The Loans

1) According to some ראשונים, the Mitzvah of שמיטת כספים
(forgiving outstanding loans at the end of שמיטה) is a

2) Most ראשונים hold בזמן הזה it is only a מצוה דרבנן.
3) Some who hold the מצוה is not applicable בזמן הזה

פ' כי תבא recommends, after writing the פרזבול*
one should lend a friend a small amount of money.
When the friend comes (after ר"ה) to repay the loan he
should tell him משמט אני - I forgive the loan.

Thereby he will have fulfilled the מצוה of שמיטת כספים.

*פרזבול not valid for future loans

There is a Minhag*, not to face the בעל קריאה
(standing in front of the בימה) when he Leins (reads)  the תוכחה.

*Another Minhag is that the עולה before the תוכחה leaves
the בימה immediately after his Aliya and doesn't wait for the
end of the next Aliya to do so.

In some Shuls during the year when the Gabai wants to
give an Aliyah to the בעל קריאה he doesn't call him up
by saying יעמוד פלוני ב"פ since he is already standing there.
All he does is point at him to take the next Aliya.

Hence this is how the Minhag started for the בעל קריאה
to get the תוכחה since there is no need to call him up.

**The original Minhag was to put it in the contract  that
the שמש needs to take the Aliya of the תוכחה.

The רמ"א writes to call up יעמוד מי שירצה (no name) Whoever
is willing to take this Aliya.

The מקור חיים writes that the מי שירצה is a חיוב to be עולה
on the first day Rosh Hashana and on the first day Shavuos.
ie:  The מי שירצה is being compensated by getting an Aliya
on the first Yom Tov after the תוכחה

Don't Worry Be Happy

Over a thousand years ago ר' אברהם ב"ר חייא* wrote that
he is not impressed by those who are sad and worried
when reading of the תוכחה.
For this reason, they rush through with the reading of
the תוכחה.

All the predictions of the תוכחה happened in the past.
There is no need to worry because it won't happen again.
Only good times lay ahead.

(Wishful thinking)

Can you crack the code?

Reb Avrohom Ganichovsky zt"l in his younger years

This past Shabbos, I read parts of a biography on Harav
Hagaon R. Avrohom Ganichovsky zt"l (R.Y. Tchebin)

R. Avrohom Ganichovsky, whenever he met his friend
Harav Hagaon R. Dov Landau Shlita
(R.Y. Slabodka) they spoke in learning in code language.

One mentioned a few words or a מראה מקום and the other
responded the same way. They both understood what the
other meant to say.

The ספר gives an example and writes, They met each other on Sunday פ' כי תבא and R. Dov Landau told him that during
קריאת התורה of the past Shabbos he was thinking,

"האם לא יוכל לשלחה חל על לא יוכל שלחה"

To this Reb Avrohom Ganichovsky responded
"בשלא כדרכה"

There is no explanation in the ספר the meaning of this
conversation or what's it's all about.

Why A Date ? -Parshas Hashavua -Parshas Ki Savo

  PARSHAS HASHAVUA

The pasuk in Parshas
Rashi explains, the translation of  "דבש"  is sweets (nectar)
derived  from any   fruit

How did Chazal know that one of the Shivas Haminim   are dates ,
If  sweets derived from any fruit,  is called דבש maybe it is an apple
or some other fruit?

*2:11

*IMPORTANT!!!* Don't forget to make Kiddush on Yom Kippur

Making Kiddush on Yom Kippur is a מחלוקת between ר' עקיבא איגר   who holds it is only a  מצוה דרבנן  unless it falls on...
