Forgive The Loans

1) According to some ראשונים, the Mitzvah of שמיטת כספים  (forgiving outstanding loans at the end of שמיטה) is a מצוה דאורייתא בזמן הזה אפילו בחו"ל. 2) Most ראשונים hold בזמן הזה it is only a מצוה דרבנן. 3) Some who hold the מצוה is not applicable בזמן הזה The בן איש חי פ' כי תבא recommends, after writing the פרזבול* one should lend a friend a small amount of money. When the friend comes (after ר"ה) to repay the loan he should tell him משמט אני - I forgive the loan. Thereby he will have fulfilled the מצוה of שמיטת כספים. *פרזבול not valid for future loans
