Same Yahrzeit

 

In the פיוט of the first day Shachris Rosh Hashana (אבן חוג) it says "סלוף דינה ביהוסף להנחות" The Chasam Sofer quotes from the ספר טיב גטין who the Ch. Sofer  quotes from a מקובל, who said, that when יוסף was in לאה's stomach his name was יהוסף and when דינה was in רחל's stomach her name was דין. After the mothers were switched, יהוסף lost the ה and became יוסף and דין received that ה and became דינה ---- Actually, the טיב גטין doesn't quote this from an unknown מקובל but quotes this from his Mechuten הרב לוי יצחק מברדיטשוב זצ"ל. In all probability, the Chasam Sofer never heard of the קדושת לוי and therefore refers to him as  an unknown מקובל אחד. This Shtikel תורה is very unique. All three names mentioned (R. Levi Yitzchok Barditchev - R.Efraim Zalman Margolis- טיב גטין & The Chasam Sofer)  were all Niftar on כ"ה תשרי

Kreindel Steinhart's Vort on the Parsha

 

לז"נ הני תרי נשי דיתבן בגן עדן, רות בת ר' צבי יהודה ופעסיל בת ר' בונם ע"ה יום השנה ז' כסליו Mrs.Ruth Stefansky ע"ה, my mother in law was Niftar at the young age of 27-years leaving behind her husband Rav Akiva Stefansky Zt"l and 3 young children Mrs.Edith  (פעסיל) Dohany ע"ה &  her family were involved in saving hundreds of families from the Nazis ym"s . Amongst them, was my Mother ע"ה & her 2 siblings. Mrs. E. Dohany was also מוסר נפש  in helping Yidden behind the Iron curtain ברוחניות ובגשמיות  She was מוסר נפש having בריתות מילה and the סעודות performed behind the iron curtain. She sent with tens of Shluchim (My wife & I were one of them) medication, food & money and thereby being מציל נפשות of Yidden living behind the iron curtain תנצב"ה             WHO WAS KREINDEL STEINHARDT? Kreindel was the sister of *R. Shaya Pik Berlin and the wife of **R Yosef Steinhardt (1720–1776) She was a מלומדת and מחדש חידושים. She was highly educated in תורה. Both, her brother & her husband quote some of her חידושים in their ספרים. Reb Shaya Pik Berlin quotes a Vort from his sister Kreindel on this  week's Parsha in his ספר הפלאה שבערכין: The גמרא says most women are into witchcraft. (רוב נשים מצויות בכשפים) so when Rochel told her father כי דרך נשים לי she was actually telling him the תרפים (the דרך נשים) are לי are with me. * He completed the מסורת הש"ס and was considered the greatest בקי of his time. ** מחבר ספר זכרון יוסף He  was the רבי of two famous תלמידים הרב מרדכי בנעט & החכם וולף היידנהיים

The 4 Minhagim

 

Parshas Hashavua ויצא   There are 4 different Minhagim when to start pronouncing ישכר instead of יששכר. 1) The first time the name appears. (פ' ויצא). 2) From the second time & on (פ' ויגש) 3) From Parshas פנחס & on 4) From Parshas שמות & on Some, who claim, that the Minhagim 1-2-3 are based on reasons 1-2-3 1) According to Dikduk ישכר is the proper pronunciation therefore we always pronounce it correctly (even the first time) 2) The first time we pronounce the original name as it was given. From then on we cover up the 2nd reason. 3)  The changeover from יוב to ישוב is in פ' פנחס therefore we do the same with the changeover from יששכר to ישכר. 4) I don't know. Perhaps the עולם has a Pshat Reasons 1-2-3 to pronounce it ישכר. 1) In דקדוק there are times when two same letters next      to each other to pronounce only the first letter.     . מחצצרים דהי"א ט"ו:כ"ד is pronounced מחצרים    2) The two ש's in יששכר symbolizes 2 times שכר a) The שכר of giving זלפה to יעקב b) The שכר of Leah giving away the דודאים so she can spend an extra night with יעקב. Being the second שכר is a לשון גנאי (not appropriate to publicize) therefore we drop the second ש. 3) The second ש was given to יוב his son who in Parshas פנחס is called ישוב (see רש"י במדבר כ"ו:כ"ד) מפרשים write It was discovered later on of an עבודה זרה named יוב so they removed one ש from יששכר and added it to יוב and it became ישוב.

THE NAME GAME

PARSHAS HASHAVUA פרשת ויצא          THE NAME GAME In this week's Parsha we have the birth of eleven of the שבטי יה and birth of דינה. All of them were named by women except for לוי*. In Parshas  (35:18) וישלח we find both parents naming their son. The mother called him בן-אוני and the father called him בנימין. (different names) In Parshas   (38:3,4,5) וישב we find the parents taking turns. The first son was named by the father. The second son by the mother. The third son was named again by the mother. Rishonim say that's why the Torah points out והיה בכזיב בלדתה אותו to tell us the reason she was the one who named this son even though it wasn't her turn, because the father was out of town. An interesting observation I have no Pshat yet.    Rashi quotes the Midrash, Gavriel was the one who named him לוי The Redak holds it was Yaakov who named him.
