He Loved Her

 

As far as I know, the only time* that the Torah ever points out a husband loving his wife is by Yitzchok. ותהי לו לאשה ויאהבה בראשית כ"ד:ס"ז.   We find in this week's Parsha that Yitzchok was clearly mistaken about his son עשיו yet for some reason Rivka wouldn't tell Yitzchok. Perhaps the message the Torah is teaching us is that not always is there a need to be critical or point out your spouse's mistakes. There are times when he is definitely in the wrong yet, at certain times by keeping quiet about it will create a ויאהבה.   * ויאהב יעקב את רחל was before she became his wife.

Midrash Rabah Parshas Toldos (65) quotes Koheles (11:5) כעצמים בבטן המלאה [you don't know] " the nature of the embryo in a

pregnant stomach." 

The עץ יוסף writes the reason we don't know the gender in a pregnant stomach is that otherwise, some רשעים would cause the woman to abort if the gender won't be to their liking.

As a result of female infanticide and sex-selective abortion combined, there are an estimated 30–40 million more men than women in China today. This female deficit is expected to generate a wide range of adverse social, political, and economic consequences

PARSHAS תולדות   The שו"ת מהרש"ל : כ writes, The Chazal of --אינו דומה תפילת צדיק בן צדיק applies only to the תפילת צדיק for his own needs. However, תפילות for others, the opposite is true. It is more beneficial to have a צדיק who is not a בן צדיק  to Daven for you. According to the מהרש"ל, You should seek out a Rebbe that is NOT A  בנן של קדושים.  ברכות of a בעל תשובה are more effective than from a Rebbe who is a  בנן של קדוש

Was Yitzchok's Bracha to Yakov ever fulfilled?

When was Yitzchok's Bracha fulfilled?           ברכת יצחק 1) ויתן לך -ורב דגן ותירש 2) -וישתחוו לך לאמים-הוה גביר לאחיך- 3) ארריך ארור ומברכיך ברוך The בעל הטורים writes that the ברכות יצחק took effect from the times of דוד המלך and lasted until יהורם  (six generations) It might seem an insignificant ברכה that  lasted only approximately 150 years out of approximately 3600 years. (4% of the total time since the Bracha was given) Perhaps it was well worth it for Rivka & Yakov to take the risk of acquiring this ברכה that only lasted for about 150 years because in those 150 years the בית המקדש was built and מלכות בית דוד משיחו was established.  These two important events in our history might have been able to happen only because of Yitzchok's Bracha. These events enabled us to survive the גלות by yearning for 2000 years to ותחזינה עינינו בשובך לציון and to ובא לציון גואל אמבצי

The Minhag of Gedolei Yisrael both male & female is to wear nice-smelling perfumes. Perhaps, they had Esrog perfume and wanted to smell like גן עדן אמבצי אבן עזרא ג:ג וסכת. שמן שיש לו ריח טוב כי כן מנהג גדולי ישראל אנשים ונשים.
