Mocking the deceased

Having visited today the ציון of the Zaidah the
I noticed people light candles there.
I was wondering if this would not be considered

The Chasam Sofer שו"ת ח"ו: כ"ז writes he is unaware of
the so-called מצוה רבה (sarcastic) to light a נר נשמה at
home or even at the קבר.

The Ch. Sofer holds that the concept of a  נר נשמה is only
when it is used to light up a Shul or a Bais Midrash.

A lesson in Tanya

.

The only time the חתם סופר ever quotes from the
ספר ליקוטי אמרים*, also known as the תניא, is in this week's
Parsha (בהעלתך).

The תניא writes, when a person sins, he also drags
along and sins with his נשמה the חלק אלוה that is
within him.

The חתם סופר explains with this the פסוק

Not only did the אספסוף, the evil part within him, sin, but
also the נשמת ישראל the חלק אלוה sinned.

* The Chasam Sofer (Shu"t O. Chaim 16) argues on the ספר ליקוטי אמרים
The Ch.S. claims that this Sefer is not available in the entire
city, and even if it were available, he wouldn't have time for it.
The Sefer he is referring to is not the תניא but the
from the Mezritcher Magid.

Harav Chaim Shmuel Birnbaum zt"l  (מעשה חשב על הרמב"ם) writes that his Shver
R. Akiva Eiger zt"l owned a ספר תניא, but he wasn't sure if he owned a  שו"ע הרב

Vort On Parshas Hashavua-Parshas Behaloischa

Vort On Parshas Hashavua-Parshas Behaloischa

(There is no Issur Chometz except if eaten together  with the Korban)

The Minchas Chinuch asks on Rashi,, "We don't find anywhere in Chazal that there is an Issur to  eat the Korban Pesach Sheini  together with Chometz."

See Meshech Chochmo (Ohr Someiach) on his Limud, why it should be Assur.

Harav Shach zt"l says Pshat in Rashi is just the opposite

But you may eat Chometz together  with the Korban.

The Yahrtzeit Candle

.

     Parshas Hashavua

Lighting a candle on the day of a Yahrzeit is not mentioned
anywhere in

The first to mention
נר נשמה is probably the.

The
כל בו writes to light a נר for deceased parents, on ערב יו"כ
so they will have a
The parents have a כפרה, because
of
Mitzvohs a child does benefit the deceased
parents.

The
טור writes (630) There is a special ענין to have many
candles in Shul on Yom Kippur.
The need for lots of candles was because some people
spend the whole night & day in Shul. Others spend there the
whole day till the evening.

It is probable, that the
חכמים tried to entice people to donate
נר למאור, therefore, attached the special סגולה of כפרה on יו"כ
for the
מתים, and applied the פסוק of נר ה' נשמת אדם to the
Yahrzeit candle.

The Chasam Sofer (Shu"t #6:27) writes he is unaware of
a so-called
מצוה רבה (sarcastic) to light Yahrzeit candles at
home or even at the

According to the Chasam Sofer, there is no point
in lighting Yahrzeit candles at home or at the Bais Hachaim.
The sole purpose of a Yahrzeit candle is to do a Mitzvah with
it to light up the Shul so that others will have light to Daven & learn.

Today with electric lighting the light of the candle is useless.
Perhaps, paying the electric bill would be more beneficial
for the
עליית נשמה than Yahrzeit candles.

*In ברכות נ"ג ע:א &  כתובות ק"ג ע"א is not referring to Yahzeit candles

There is no mention anywhere in Shas or Shulchan Aruch to light a candle on the day of a Yahrzeit.

The Chasam Sofer (Shu"t #6:27) writes he is unaware of a so-called מצוה רבה to light Yahrzeit candles at home or even at the Kever.

The ביאור הלכה ס' תקיד  quotes from the  שו"ת כתב סופר (O.Ch65) that "on YomTov when we may not light
a נר של בטלה ( a candle that has no purpose) it is best to light the Yahrzeit candle (if it wasn't lit before Yom Tov) in the room where you eat (purpose) or even better, to light it in Shul.(Mitzvah)

Only for a שעת הדחק may we light a Yahrzeit candle for parents* since it's done for their honor (כיבוד אב ואם)

According to the Maharshal even for parents might not be a Mitzvah, but since everybody lights candles and some are
מקפיד on this more than other Mitzvos, therefore, we allow him to light the candle on Yom Tov, so he
will not be מצטער and have no Simchas Yom Tov."

*  Seems, that lighting a candle for a Rebbe etc. (no Mitzvahs כיבוד אב ואם) may not be done on Yom Tov.
