A Bone To Pick
Daf Hashavua
Gittin 68b -69-70
Daf Hashavua
The Mahril said that all Refuos and
Lachashim mentioned in Shas, are forbidden to be practiced.
It only works in certain
conditions. Someone who will try it and it won’t work , might ridicule
the Chachamim.
There is one exception, and that is, if
someone has a (fish) bone stuck in his throat.
The Gemoro ( Shabbos 67a) says that he
should bring another bone and place it on the back of his head and say" 讞讚 讞讚 谞讞讬转 讘诇注 讘诇注 谞讞讬转 讞讚 讞讚
This Lachash is allowed because it is
Boduk Umenuso (guaranteed) to work in all conditions."
I once heard that this Lachash only
works if you use the Sefardic Havarah (accent).
The Ches and the Ayin (from chad,
nochis and bola) are pronounced from deep inside the throat.
Pronouncing these two letters (sefardi)
manipulates the throat, so that the bone will dislodge.

Father or Mother
Sefardim engrave on the Matzeiva, the name of
the Niftar and the Niftar’s mother's name.
Ashkenazim engrave the name of
the Niftar and the Niftar’s father's name.
Recently Ashkenazim have a Minhag to add another
line at the bottom, and write Sheim Imoi/Imoh -----
The vast majority of the old Kevorim in Eretz Yisroel
had no engraving at all.
Rabbi Yechiel Michel Tukachinsky zt"l, writes*, in the year 1928,
the Jerusalem Museum exihibited old coffins and bones
which were found on Har Hatzofim. He went with Rav A.Y.
Kook zt”l and managed to convince the Museum to
return the bones for reburial.
(interesting- quiet Shtadlonus without public protests &
riots,
can sometimes be effective as well)
The Museum insisted to keep the coffins. R.Y.M.T. noted
there were 23 coffins, from two families. 10 came from
one family and 13 from the other family.
4 of the 10 had engraved only the name. (Yehuda, Chana,
Miriam, Yehuda) The other 6 had no engraving at all.
The other family had all 13 coffins engraved. Two had
names without the father. Three had the name followed by
the word” Ben” (son) fathers name was illegible. Two women
both were called Shalom. One was Eishes Yehudah, the other
was
Eishes Elozor. One was Shimon Avi (father of) Yosef. The
other
five had their names the sons of their fathers.
These coffins were from Zman Bayis Sheini and followed
the Ashkenazi Minhag of naming the father, not the
mother.

In Siddur Rashi(13) it says: “All Kehilos in Ashkenaz are known for their thousand Tovos & Brachos. All of them are filled with Torah & Mitzvohs like a Rimon. Their Ma’asim are beautiful. They are Machmir in checking Treifos,Tevilas Nidah & wherever it is appropriate to be Machmir.
The Ramban in his Hakdamah to Kunteres Dinei Garmi writes :The Chachmei Hatzarfasim (French Ba’alei Tosfos) are our teachers and they uncover for us all the hidden things
in the Torah.
The Maharshal (Hakdamah Chulin Y.S.S.) writes:
"Even though he ( Ramban) was a Sefardi, he recognized the truth and praised the ones who are praiseworthy."
The Rosh (Teshuvh 20:20) writes: He only eats what has a Mesorah from Chachmei Ashkenaz. The Torah
has been their Yerushe since the Churban Habayis.
The Leket Yosher( p118) quotes the Maharash miNeustadt: "The reason Torah has held on in Ashkenaz more than in the other countries, because the Yidden lend their money to the Nochri and charge them interest. They don’t need to work and have time to learn. Those who don’t learn support the Lomdei Torah, with their profits.
Reb Yakov Emdin (Mor Uketzia 53) writes : “My heart is happy and I thank Hashem with all my heart that he made me an Ashkenazi.
