Parshas Hashavua ורפא ירפא The מהריל said that all רפואות and לחשים mentioned in Shas are forbidden to be practiced. It only works under certain conditions.  Someone who will try it and if it won’t work might Ch"v ridicule Chazal. There is one exception, and that is if someone has a (fish) bone stuck in his throat. The Gemoro ( Shabbos 67a) says that he should bring another bone and place it on the back of his head and say" חד חד נחית בלע בלע נחית חד חד" This לחש is allowed because it is בדוק ומנוסה (guaranteed) to work in all conditions."  I once heard that this לחש only works if you use the Sefardic Havarah (accent). The ח Ches and the ע Ayin (from chad, nochis and bola) are pronounced from deep inside the throat. Pronouncing these two letters (Sefardi accent) manipulates the throat so that the bone will dislodge

1) The שו"ת הרמב"ם: מ"ד  says not to stand up when the עשרת הדברות
are read. (**תערומת המינים)

2) The יעב"ץ-חיד"א etc. hold of the Minhag of standing up for the עשרת הדברות.

3) The איגרות משה (O.Ch. 4 - 22) says even if your Minhag is to remain seated, if you are in a Shul where they stand up you must stand up. (פורש מן הציבור)

4) Harav Hagaon R. Y. S. Elyashiv zt"l said (שיעורי ברכות י"ב ע"א) "Even when in a Shul where they all stand you should not stand up (if you are sitting) because standing up for the עשרת הדברות is נגד (against ) Halacha".

*Standing up before and remaining in that position during the  קריאת עשרת הדברות is not a problem.
** Christians etc. who believe  only in the ten commandments.

לא תעשון אתי                       שמות כ:כ   The Gemoro (Avodah Zarah 53a) and Shulchan Aruch (Y.D. 141-8) says:  “You are not allowed to replicate the Shulchan and Menorah etc. of the Bais Hamikdash. The type of metal or size doesn't matter.  You may not make a seven-branch Menorah". Reb Akiva Eiger's son in law (R. Shmuel Birnbaum zt"l) writes that his Shver had a silver Judenstern Shabbos lamp with seven spouts. He took it to a silversmith who with great difficulty managed to add on an additional spout. Reb Akiva Eiger seems to hold like the Poskim*  that since we  are dealing with an Issur De'orysa  (לא תעשון אתי) therefore  all seven branch Menoras are forbidden, regardless of the  shape (cups are in a straight line or in a circle etc.) The Chasam Sofer (Toras Moshe Parshas Yisro) writes (based on a Tosfos Yoma 54b) :  " Because we  hold wooden tables would be Posul in the Bais Hamikdosh  therefore, we may make and have wooden tables in our homes.  However, metal tables regardless of size shape or type  of metal are kosher B'dieved in the Bais Hamikdash, therefore, all metal tables may not be made for personal use." The Chasam Sofer continues that he sees no Heter for the Matzoh bakery to have copper (metal) tables. Most commercial kitchens in Shuls, Yeshivos, etc. have today stainless steel tables. Also, many people have metal tables lawn furniture etc. According to the Chasam Sofer, there is no Heter for it. The Darkei Teshuva (Y.D. 141-8) argues on the Chasam Sofer he writes:  " We find  the Gemoro (Shabbos119a)  R. Chiya b Aba praised the Ba’al Habayis who brought in  L’kovod Shabbos a golden table. Had it been assur to  make he would not have praised him. *Bchor Shor- Pischei teshuva

The Gemoro (Kiddushin 29b) says, After mentioning
his deceased  father, he should say
(זכרונו לברכה לחיי העולם הבא  (זללה"ה

The מהרש"א writes, saying זכרונו לברכה without adding לחיי העולם הבא can be said even for living people.

Harav A.Y.L. Shteinman Zt"l  said, "The only Segulos one should pursue, are the ones that the Segula in itself is a מצוה." Even if the Segulah won't work, the זכות of doing the מצוה might work. Harav Hagaon R. Naftoli Friedler zt"l (R.Y. Ner Yisroel Toronto) said, "Some Segulos that are being pursued by the masses, are because of the  "שמץ יצר הרע של ע"ז שעוד נשאר אצלינו ( trace of the Avoda Zara Yetzer Hora that wasn't eradicated from us)

The Tur and the Mechaber write in the first Siman  of the entire Shulchan Aruch " טוב לומר" (It's good to say Parshas Haman etc.) If they say that it's good then we can rely on them that it's good.

The Mishna Verurah (sk 13) quotes the Bais Yosef the reason to say it so to believe that Parnasa comes with Hashgacha Pratis. The Mishna Verura explains, to believe that

increase in Hishtadlus doesn't help to increase Parnasah.

The Prisha quotes the Yerushalmi in Ms.Brochos  (Aruch Hashulchan couldn't find it,) "Whoever says Parshas Ha;man EVERY DAY* will be guaranteed  not to miss his Mezonos. (Parnasa)

The Tashbatz adds "ואני ערב" I am a guarantor.

PARSHAS HASHAVUA בא 3 Questions: 1) Why don't the מדקדקים place two Mezuzos on each door post one vertical and one horizontal to be יוצא ידי שניהם? 2) Why don't we place the Parshiyos in the Tefillin at an angle to be יוצא ידי שניהם? 3) Why when placing the Mezuzah at an angle don't we say that you are not יוצא  according to both Rashi & R.Tam, since it is not vertical and not horisontal?   1 answer: The Gemoro (Menochos 33a) says  עשאה כמין נגר פסולה if you placed the Mezuzah like a bolt/peg it is פסול. The Machlokes between Rashi & R.Tam is what type of  a bolt the Gemoro is referring to. (vertical or horizontal) The Machlokes is not which position one should place the Mezuzah but which position not to place the  Mezuzah so that it is not כמין נגר. All agree as long it is not positioned like a peg it is כשר. Positioning the Mezuza at an angle is not a compromise (doing it halfway like both) but is the proper לכתחילא   way to place it, (according to both) being a peg is never placed at an angle. Therefore when placed at an angle there is no need to place two Mezuzos. It is positioned according to both Rashi & R.Tam in the proper position.You are יוצא ידי שניהם  by placing it at an angle This solution won't work by Tefillin.  Placing the Parshiyos in the Tefillin the Halacha dictates how to place the Parshiyos and not how not to place it. Therefore by placing it at an angle both Rashi & R. Tam will agree that it is Pasul. אמבצי The Gaon who holds to place the Mezuzah vertically  (not angle) also holds it's not necessary to put on R.Tam's Teffilin. In both cases since the Halacha is like Rashi there is no need to be יוצא ידי שניהם

The Sefer מדרש פליאה (The Puzzling Midrash )  is a compilation of puzzling statements and riddles.
Contrary to popular belief, they are not מדרשי חז"ל .They  were invented by Darshonim
who made up statements that
sound illogical and then solved them.

Harav Hagaon Ovadyah Yosef זצ"ל (Yechave Da’as 5-3) quotes a מדרש פליאה and a solution
from R. Akiva Eiger zt”l

“אין מניחין תפילין אלא בשבת”  You don’t put on Tefilin only on Shabbos.
 The spelling of   בית שין בית תיו –are the Roshei Teivos of במקום שער במקום תפוח
Rosh is placed where there is (was) hair. Yad is placed on part of the arm where the muscles are.

The מהרש"א in מהודרא בתרא  ( Shabbos 88b) explains, the פסוק in Tehillim (119 -164)
"שקר שנאתי ואתעבה , תורתך אהבתי". I have hated falsehood and abhorred it,your Torah I love.

Dovid Hamelech is referring to the Darshonim who fool the public with their lies. They say over מדרשים שקרים (invented Midrashim)  and then explain the Midrash with their lies. He only likes true Torah and not invented lies.

Happy Birthday To The Gadol Hador

R. Chaim Berlin Zt"l used to send every year a fancy birthday cake to the Gadol Hador R.Shmuel Salant Zt"l The Jerusalem newspaper “Chavatzelet” reported on February 1909 that on  the 2nd of Shevat  R.Shmuel Salant [zt”l] celebrated his 93d birthday. Gedolei Yerushalyim and dignitaries  assembled in his house. One of the Gedolim said Chidushei Torah. R. Chaim Berlin  (shlita) [zt”l] sent, as he usually did, a decorated fancy birthday cake with flowers & ornaments.  It was inscribed with cream the following words, בשם ה' כי ארך ימים ושנות חיים טובים ארוכים ושלום רב יוסיפו להרב הגאון מורנו רבנו ר' שמואל בן רבי צבי,אמן אמן  זה משלי ידידו רצוף אהבה רבה, חיים ברלין The Gematria of this Bracha = 5669 (1909)

How  can you perform the Mitzvah of  פדיון הבן without having any כהן involved?
 

According to Tosfos, (Kiddushin 8a dh R. Kahane 2nd Tirutz) one may use a כהנת for Pidyon Haben. (even after she marries a Yisroel)

Hence a Pidyon Haben without a Kohen

The Ch. Sofer writes If a כהן isn't available and the person who never had a Pidyon is in the Gevuros (the eighties) or a זריז who has no access to a כהן on the
30th day (they both don't want to take chances of dying before having performed the Mitzvah)

They should use a כהנת without making  the Bracha. They should make a תנאי that if no כהן will be found, then she shall be the redeemer.

Shulchan Aruch: (Y.D.61:8) "Matnas Kehuna may be
given to a כהנת (female) even if she is married to a Yisroel. "

The Chasam Sofer (Shu"t Y.D.301)
writes he used to give* the זרוע ולחיים  (right arm & bottom cheek with tongue) to his brother in law** (who was married to a כהנת)

*Halachically not necessary

**This Teshuva is dated before the Petirah
of his first wife, therefore, it must have 
been R' Hirsh Yervitz zt"l  & not the Eiger/Ginz brothers

The זהר פרשת בא says, Shlomo Hamelech had seven names **שלמה , ידידיה , *אגור , בן יקא  , איתיאל , למואל , קהלת The משנת חכמים ***  ( s 332-334) writes, “When the זהר was originally discovered, it wasn’t  set up on Parshas Hashavua.  The אדם גדול who discovered the זהר  was the one who organized it according to the  Parshas Hashavua." It is unknown  why he placed certain מאמרים that have no שייכות to the Parsha in that particular Parsha. He must have had a reason על פי סוד  אמבצי *The  (ספר האגור (ר'יעקב בן ר' יהודה לנדא writes the Hakdama with the pen name אגור  בן יקא explaining himself that he is about to spew out (publicize) all he has gathered (see Rashi & Metzudas Mishlei 30:1) **According to the Midrash only 3 names  שלמה  ידידיה קהלת     *** מהר"ם חגיז
