In Shulchan Aruch
(Rema/Mahril) there is no
mention for a woman to place
her hands on
her face to cover her eyes.
It says to place the
hands in front the candles
to block the light from the
candles*.
*Perhaps this is how Minhag
of waving hands over candles started.
What is the reason for blocking the light from the candles?
