The Rambam* (איגרות הרמב"ם) rejects the Chazal of
 ארבעים יום קודם יצירת הולד בת קול יוצאת ואומרת בת פלוני לפלוני*


The Gemoro  קידושין מ ע"א says, 
אמר ר' אליעאי אם רואה אדם שיצרו מתגבר עליו ילך
--- למקום שאין מכירין אותו וילבש שחורים 

If a person can't control himself not to do an עבירה
he should go to a place where he is an unknown
and dress up in black ---

Some Rishonim (רי"ף,רא"ש ועוד) claim that Halachically
we don't Paskin like ר' אליעאי who holds that there are
times when a man can't control himself and has no
בחירה not to be עובר the עבירה

We hold הכל בידי שמים חוץ מיראת שמים Every sane
person has control and the בחירה  of not being
עובר the עבירה

R. Elchonon Wasserman Hy"d writes that the
Rambam agrees with the רי"ף that we Paskin
הכל בידי שמים חוץ מיראת שמים and not like ר' אליעאי
who claims there are times when a man has no בחירה
and can't restrain himself.

The Rambam also holds that the Chazal of
ארבעים יום קודם יצירת הולד is only according
to ר' אליעאי who doesn't hold of בחירה.
However, since we hold that we do have בחירה
therefore one marries a wife of his own choice.

Hence the Rambam rejects the Chazal of
- ארבעים יום קודם יצירת הולד



*The Chasam Sofer (Shu”t O. Ch. 55) based on the אריז"ל
also reject the פשט פשוט of מ' יום קודם יצירת הולד
