Sang or said? DAF YOMI Sukkah 51b

 

דף יומי סוכה נ"א ע"ב שעליהן הלוים עומדין בכלי שיר ואומרים שירה            Did they sing the שיר של יום?               The Sefer תורה לדעת* asks: a) Did the לויים actually sing the שיר של יום b) or they said it while the music was playing? The Mishna in  מס' סוכה it says, שעליהן הלוים עומדין בכלי שיר ואומרים שירה The Mishna in 'מס' תמיד ז':ד it says,השיר שהלויים היו אומרים. The Rambam, (תמידין ומוספין פ"ו ה"ז)  writes,  ודברו הלויים בשיר From these three sources, it seems that they didn't sing the שירה but said it. A תלמיד חשוב from Lakewood sent in three sources from where it seems (not מוכרח) that they actually did sing the שירה.  הרב מתתיהו בלום זצ"ל ולהבדיל בין חיים* אחיו גיסתי הרב משה מרדכי בלום שליט"א

Eclipse poetry- Last weeks Daf Yomi -Succah 29A

                                        Don't Worry

ובזמן שישראל עושין רצונו של מקום אין מתייראין מכל אלה שנאמר       

 כה אמר ה' -- ומאותות השמים אל תחתו כי יחתו הגוים מהמה (סוכה כ"ט.)

In the year 1044 in the month of כסליו, there was a lunar eclipse

and two weeks later there was a solar eclipse across Europe.

R. Yechiel Mi Roma* wrote a Piyut for the occasion. It was based

on the two Pasukim in Yirmiyahu (10:2,3) '---כה אמר ה

(Yidden need not to fear an eclipse)

Every Stanza has three lines of Piyut and the fourth line has part

of the two Pesukim.  

1st. Stanza (rough translation)

אתה גלית סודך לצופי חזיוני

You uncovered your secrets to the נביאים

אליך להשליך יהב ברעש רזיוני

To you the burden of nature noises should be thrown

בל תשתע מלקיית מאורי רונני

Do not dissolve from the eclipse of the lights who sing שירה

כה אמר ה

דף יומי סוכה ל"ה ע"א מצה של מעשר שני--לדברי חכמים אדם יוצא בו ידי חובתו ביו"ט                     חומרא for Pesach Don't be מקנה to your guest Matzohs on  Pesach Mori V'Rabi Harav Hagaon R. Shlomo Miller Shlita said:*   "Food that the owner has a right to eat, even if there are some restrictions on them is considered belonging to him. Therefore. one is   עובר על בל יראה ובל ימצא on לחמי תודה being it's considered enough of לכם just by having the right to eat them (רשות אכילה)  Similarly one is יוצא אכילת מצה with מעשר שני  and it is considered his just because he has  רשות אכילה even though there are other restrictions on מעשר שני. Accordingly, if one is invited for the Seder, there is no need  for the host to be מקנה the Matzos to the guest. There is no need for the Matzos to belong to the guest. By having a רשות אכילה is enough ownership to be יוצא." Since it is not necessary to be מקנה, R.S.M suggested that perhaps it is better not to be מקנה the Matzos on Yom Tov. Doing a קנין on Yom Tov is only allowed when it is a Mitzvah. If there is no need to do it then there is no Mitzvah and one may not do a קנין. דרשת שבת הגדול תשע"ט*

Forcing The Angles

 

DAF YOMI SUCCAH 28a שיחת מלאכי השרת רש"י - לא ידענא מאי היא רש"י writes that he doesn't what  שיחת מלאכי השרת is The רשב"ם ב"ב קל"ד  writes "להשביעם" - understanding the language of the מלאכים in order to force a שבועה on them. Kabbalists had a  practice of forcing an oath on the מלאכים ( משביעין את המלאכים ). The Kabbalist claimed that Hashem gives permission to the מלאכים  to do as they are commanded (by humans) even if the recipients are not worthy and have no זכויות for the favour.    There used to be a Minhag for חזנים to force an oath on the מלאכים. The חזנים were concerned, an עין הרע will cause them to lose their voice during Davening. (ימים נוראים)    The חזנים had a Nusach they said, before saying המלך.   בשם שמעי' -------(שמות של מלאכים)---- אני פלוני בן פלוני משביע אני עליכם שתסייעו לי שאתפלל היום בקול רם ונעים וערב ואל יחר גרוני ואל ילאה רוחי וכוחי (In the name of the מלאכים --- I Ploni the son of Ploni, place a שבועה on you (מלאכים) that you will help me to Daven today with a voice that is loud, pleasant, and sweet, and my throat shouldn’t anger (cough) and my spirit and strength shouldn’t tire.)   The לבוש (O.Ch.584) was against this השבעה (oath). He claims it is wrong to believe that one can force   Hashem to accept his Tefillos. The acceptance of Tefillos is dependant on the כוונת הלב, and not by force. The לבוש was also critical against the חזנים for saying the Nusach right before המלך.  After ברוך שאמר is considered a הפסק.  The לבוש suggested totally eliminating this Nusach.  and if not possible, then it should be said before ברוך שאמר. Perhaps, the מחלוקת between the לבוש & מקובלים goes back to רש"י & רשב"ם אמבצי
