The advantage of the Am Haoretz-Vort For Parshas Emor

באגרא --- ונטרן להו לגברייהו עד דאתו מבי מדרשא

 The Chasam Sofer( Parshas Emor) writes:

” The Am Haoretz who supports Torah has an advantage over the Talmid Chacham who learns. When he supports Torah he is rewarded even if the Talmid Chacham is negligent and is not learning, what should he have done and why should he lose out" .

The Netziv said Pshat  on the Pasuk שלום רב לאהבי תורתיך- ואין למו מכשול 

Ohavei Toirosecho refers to the supporters of Torah. On them it is said Ein Lomo Michshol. For them things can’t go wrong. They will be rewarded regardless  if the Talmidei Chachamim learns or not.

The Chasam Sofer’s Sevara (logic)  would probably apply also for the wives

who send their husbands to learn and wait at home for them. They too should

be rewarded even if their husbands go to the Bais Hamedrash and Batel

(waste) their time there. What else could she have done?

DAF YOMI סוטה כ"א ע"ב [כל המלמד את בתו תורה [כאילו מלמדה תיפלות The Rambam & Shulchan Aruch  Pasken that one may not teach Torah to women. In the year 1918 when the first Bais Yaakov was established the פוסק הדור, the Chafetz Chaim was מתיר to teach  women חומש,נ"ך,ומוסר. He held it necessary because the women stopped holding on to family traditions the way they used to do in the past. The Satmar Rebbe R. Yolish Teitelbaum Zt"l, was very much against the Bais Yaakov Schools where they  teach Rashi, Ramban, etc. The Rebbe refers to them as טפשים for relying on the Chafetz Chaim who was מתיר only חומש without  Rashi, Ramban etc. Rav Wosner & the Klauzenburger Rav Zt"l both agreed  with the Satmar Rebbe that there is a איסור גמור to teach them Rashi & Ramban etc.

The Maharsha writes ,  “In our generation,those who Pasken

Halacha directly  from the Shulchan Aruch don’t know the reason

behind the Halacha unless they learn the Gemoro (Shimush 

Talmid Chacham) etc.

They are the מבלי העולם, ויש לגעור בהן (destroyers of the world)

The  ויואל משה (מאמר לה"ק  ל"ה ) writes “this was applicable

only in the Maharsha's generation when there were no

Taz, Shach, Pri Megodim & Chavas Da’as etc. Today  we have

all these Nosei Kailim who light up the blind eyes in Halacha.

Even though it is better to start from the source, the Gemoro,

we may Pasken directly from the Shulchan Aruch".

"דאמרי אינשי רחמי דאבא אבני, רחמי דבני אבני דהוו ליה"

'The love of a father is for his children. The love of his children is for their children."

(more love to your children than to your parents)

We find in this weeks Parsha . Yehudah was pleading to Yosef to allow Binyomin to return to his father otherwise his father (Yakov) will die. Why  not plead about the suffering  of Binyomin's ten sons ?

The Kotzker Rebbe answers "From here we see parents are in more pain when their children are suffering than the pain children have when their parents

are suffering".

their grandchildren more  than their own children." 

Truth Overrides Humility-Sotah49b

משמת רבי בטלה ענוה ויראת חטא- אמר ליה ר' יוסף לתנא לא תיתנא ענוה דאיכא אנא

Since Rebbie died ,humility disappeared from the world.”

R. Yosef  said to  the Tana to remove this statement from the Breisa (Mishna*)

because "I am still here." (and I am an Onov)

The obvious question is how can an Onov say  on himself that he is an Onov ?

The מהרש"א answers, Reb Yosef held the statement (there is no more Anivus in the world) to be incorrect. It was very important to have the Breisa corrected and  remove this statement. He held that truth overrides humility. For the sake of truth he sacrificed his own humility and announced the statement is wrong because "I am still here" therefore Anivus is still here.

There is a famous story with Harav Yachezkal Abramsky zt"l while testifying  in court said on himself to be the  greatest Halachic expert in the British Commonwealth. The judge said to him  " You don't seem to be the most humble Rabbi in the Commonwealth".

Rav Abramsky responded, "Your honor what should I have said, I am under oath."

הדרן עלך מסכת סוטה והדרך עלן

How  can  we sing at home (no Minyan) the last two stanzas in Koh Ribon Olam? (Aramaic)

In the last two stanzas we ask  Hashem in Aramaic  to redeem his nation from Galus, and to return to the Bais Hamikdosh. (Bakoshos B'yachid Aramaic)
