הסיפור בלשון המקור

שמעתי ממרן בעל 'שבט הלוי' זצ"ל, שכאשר הוכתר לשמש כרב שכונת 'כרם אברהם' מטעם העדה החרדית, עלה זקני הרב מטעפליק ביחד עם רבי משה בלויא ז"ל בשב"ק לקידוש שערך לכבוד המאורע, וסיפר לו אז על השאלה הראשונה שנשאל בשעתו בתור רב בישראל.

סיפור זה ממחיש ביותר את כוחו הגדול של הגאון מטעפליק זצ"ל בהוראת הוראה, בכל שאלה קטנה כגדולה.

היה זה בליל שבת הראשון שעשה בקהילתו. אחרי שסיימו את התפילה והלך לביתו, ליווהו ראשי הקהילה והגבאים, והנה ניגש אליהם נער ושואל:

"אמי ילדה בן עכשיו בלילה, מתי צריך לעשות סעודת 'שלום זכר', בשבת זו או בשבת הבאה שלפני המילה?"

האנשים מסביב נבוכו לשמע השאלה המעניינת. איזה רב יידע להשיב על אתר איך נוהגים במקרה כזה?

אך לשמחת ליבם, הרב החדש השיב מיד שיש לעשות את ה'שלום זכר' עוד הלילה.

"הדבר מפורש בפרי מגדים הלכות פסח" – אמר.

הלמדנים שבעיירה לא פסקו מלהשתומם. איך פשט הרב ספק במנהג 'שלום זכר' מתוך פרי מגדים בהלכות פסח?

אחרי שחיפשו ובדקו, מצאו כדבריו.

"סעודת ליל שבת דְזָכָר – מצוה"

ויראה, אם נולד בן זכר בליל שבת אחר צאת הכוכבים, דקורין לזכר בלילה זה, לא בליל שלפני המילה.

The Story in English

I heard from Maran Rabbi Shmuel HaLevi Wosner, author of Shevet HaLevi (זצ"ל), that when he was appointed as the rabbi of the Kerem Avraham neighborhood on behalf of the Edah HaChareidis, his grandfather, the Gaon of Teplik, together with Rabbi Moshe Blau (ז"ל), came to the Kiddush held in his honor.

At that gathering, the Gaon of Teplik told him about the first question he was asked after becoming a rabbi in Israel.

It was the first Friday night he spent in his new community. After prayers, as he walked home accompanied by community leaders, a young boy approached and asked:

"My mother gave birth to a son tonight. When should we make the Shalom Zachar meal — this Friday night or next Shabbat before the Brit Milah?"

Everyone around was puzzled. Who would know the answer immediately to such an unusual question?

The new rabbi answered without hesitation:

"The Shalom Zachar should be held that very night."

"The matter is explicitly discussed in the Pri Megadim in Hilchot Pesach," he explained.

After searching the sources, the scholars discovered that he was correct. The Pri Megadim quotes the Terumat HaDeshen that the Friday night meal celebrating the birth of a male child is considered a mitzvah.

If a baby boy is born on Friday night after nightfall, the Shalom Zachar is held that night — not the Friday night before the circumcision.
