RIDDLE ?כ ' סיון -לא גהז - ומה עוד                                כ' סיון   In the year 1171, thirty‑one Yidden were burned על קידוש השם in the city of Blois, France. In response, רבינו תם established כ' סיון as a communal fast day. He declared: “This תענית is greater than צום גדלי'ה, for it is like יום כיפור.” After the devastating massacres of ת"ח–ת"ט (the Chmielnicki pogroms, 1648–49), the Va’ad Arba Aratzos reinstated the fast of כ' סיון. The מגן אברהם (O.C. 580:9) writes that it became customary to fast on כ' סיון throughout the kingdom of Poland. The משנה ברורה תק"פ ס"ק ט"ז quotes the שערי תשובה "The fast day of כ' סיון  is only for males over 18 yrs. and females over 15 years." based on the מגן אברהם (#576)  "fast day for גזירות (except for the ' ד'צומות) starts at 15 & 18 years old".    In 1946, the Gedolim of Hungary designated כ' סיון as a fast day* to commemorate the six million קדושים murdered in the Holocaust by the Germans ימ"ש. A special set of סליחות for כ' סיון was composed and printed in Budapest. In Eretz Yisroel, Harav Chizkiyahu Mishkovsky zt"l, together with other Gedolim, attempted during the war years to establish a full week of אבילות (a communal “Shiva”) and a one‑day תענית. However, both the Chazon Ish and the Brisker Rov opposed creating a new fast day. They held that in our generation, we lack the authority and stature to institute a new תענית for all of כלל ישראל. As a result, the Hungarian initiative gradually faded. Rav Moshe Feinstein zt"l (Igros Moshe Y.D. 4:57) explains that the גזירה of Hitler ימ"ש was aimed at the destruction of the entire Jewish nation, everywhere in the world. Such a catastrophe, he writes, falls under the category of the original גזירת הגלות וחורבן הבית, for which חז"ל already established the national fast days. We are not empowered to add new תקנות to those instituted by חז"ל. *Fasting, only for those under the age of 55 years Answer to Riddle שבועות + כ' סיון  cannot fall on Tuesday, Thursday, or Shabbos (לא גהז)
