הלל on Yom Yerushalayim

                        יום ירושליםהלל ב
                       ?דרך החתם סופר

One of the greatest ניסים witnessed in my generation was the Six Day War. Israel was surrounded by multiple hostile armies, each openly declaring its intention to destroy the young state. Yet, the Israeli forcesדשמיא   בסיעתאachieved a stunning victory in only six days, overcoming overwhelming odds and regaining large areas of territory — including access to our מקומות הקדושים.

The Satmar Rebbe, R’ Yoel Teitelbaum zt”l — — a towering גדול, a person of extraordinary wisdom, a תלמיד חכם מופלג, and a צדיק יסוד עולם—maintained that such open miracles could not be performed on behalf of secular Zionist leaders. Based on this premise, he concluded that the events commonly described as “miraculous” were not from the side of קדושה, but rather manifestations of the סיטרא אחרא*, capable at times of producing deceptive phenomena.

However, most Gedolim including many with no connection to Agudas Yisroel — firmly rejected this view. They maintained that miracles benefiting Klal Yisroel cannot originate from טומאה. The outcome of the war, in their eyes, was nothing less ניסים גלויים clearly מאת ה' היתה זאת.”

נפקא מינה הלכה למעשה

The Chasam Sofer (Y D. 233; O.Ch. 208) writes that there is a חיוב דאורייתא to establish some form of commemoration — such as reciting שירה
or הלל — for miracles that occurred to the Jewish people.

This makes the current reality interesting: Much of Hungarian/Heimish Jewry proudly claims to follow
the
דרך חתם סופר yet would not even enter their mind of saying הלל on יום ירושלים — despite the possibility according to the חתם סופר to be a חיוב דאורייתא.

What’s even more striking is their claim of not changing anything אפילו כקוצו של יוד  following the Chasam Sofer’s dictum "חדש אסור מן התורה בין לקולא בין לחומרא" yet a new Yom Tov that never existed inחוץ לארץ  was invented the past 30-40 years.
You will find today in most קהילות celebrating Lag Baomer as a Yom Tov. Many even wear the Shtreimel & Bekishe This new YomTov is חדש that has spread and keeps on spreading like wildfire.
This phenomenon is not limited to Chassidim; it has spread rapidly across diverse segments of Klal Yisrael.

Yet the Chasam Sofer writes explicitly that Lag BaOmer is not a Yom Tov, since no miracle occurred on that day. The only established practice, he notes, is נוהגין בו קצת שמחה—a modest expression of joy, primarily by -No fasting, No Hesped, No Tachnun.

* The תניא explains that anything that is not directed towards השם  and
his will and service are considered sitra achra, or "the other side," and
does not receive its vitality from the קדושה of השם.
