THE SAD PARSHA



The (מדרש לקח טוב  (פסיקתא זוטרתא writes that every
פסוק in פ' וישב starts with the letter 'ו (vav) except for
the following 8 פסוקים
 
אלה תולדות (לז ב).
לכו ונמכרנו (לז כז)
היא מוצאת (לח כה)
איננו גדול בבית (לט ט).
בעוד קמא (מ יג)
כי אם (מ יד)
כי גנב (שם טו)
בעוד בתרא (שם יט)

The letter 'ו symbolizes ווי לשון צער
In this Parsha, we have so many Woes

The מדרש לק"ט enumerates the many Woes
(If you count the suffering people* you will find
8 woes אמבצי)

The מדרש לק"ט  actually missed one more פסוק
(אין שר בית הסהר (ל"ט כ"ג 
that brings us to a total count of 9 פסוקים
and not 8
ומצוה ליישב

1 יעקב
2 יוסף
3 ראובן
4 יהודה
5 ער
6 אונן
7 תמר
8 בת שוע
