More Chanuka Toira

הנרות הללו קדש הם ואין לנו רשות להשתמש בהן

The origin of this concept appears in מס' סופרים פרק כ', הלכה ד

The גמרא (שבת כ"ב ע"א) says, "one may not count
money in front of Chanukah candles."

The גמרא asks why not, וכי נר קדושה יש בה
A burning candle can't have a holy fire

The גמרא seems to hold as a given (דבר פשוט)
Chanukah candles cannot be holy and one
would be allowed to benefit from the light.

We Pasken like the מס' סופרים and not like the בבלי
and therefore may not benefit from the light of
the Chanukah candles.
