The פוטים are  Libyans. Avrohom  (from) Troy writes in the הקדמה to his Sefer, "He once dreamt on Friday night, פרשת בשלח, that he sat at a table with a very old man with a white beard and long hair. The old man asked him, " Who is the greatest נביא and R.AT replied "משה רבינו." The man then questioned why Moishe waited to sing the שירה until after קריעת ים סוף, noting all other נביאים  delivered their נבואה before the event. R.AT answered that משה רבינו was concerned that the בני ישראל who weren't strong in their אמונה won't believe him and won't say the שירה. He waited until after קריעת ים סוף. Only then did it become ויאמינו בה' ובמשה עבדו - אז (when they believed) ישיר --.   "The old man accepted the answer with simcha."   R.AT continues that he always felt that the old man in the dream was אליהו הנביא.   One day, he (R.AT) saw the תשובת מהר"ם who wrote the following story.**   רבינו אפרים (baalei hatosfos). had a dream that an old man who was hairy (long hair) had a הדרת פנים and a long beard, served him a bowl of insects.   R. Efraim asked him why he was serving him טריפות. The old man answered that, being He eats Barbuta fish, which is not kosher, he deserves a bowl of שרצים. R. Efraim said that the old man was אליהו הנביא. From then on, he refrained from eating Barbuta fish.   R.AT writes that after he saw this story and the description of the old man, he became convinced that the old man he saw   (with the long hair) in his dream was אליהו הנביא   * piyut motzei shabbos ** Part of this story is brought down in Hagahos Oshri (Rosh avoda zarah Perek 3 Siman 41) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------             ANSWER TO RIDDLE   Which Yam did the Bnei Yisroel cross? Yam Hatichon- Mediterranean Yam Suf- Red Sea Yam Ukyanus –Atlantic Ocean Yam Hamelech – Dead Sea Yam Kineret None of the above All of the above According to Tosfos, the correct answer is # 6, "none of the above" תוספות מס' ערכין ט"ו  ד"ה כשם The בני ישראל did not cross the ים סוף and emerge on the other side of the ים סוף. Rather, when they arrived at the Sea, they were surrounded by the Mitzrim. Hashem opened up a path for them in the ים to bypass them and emerge on the same bank of the ים סוף.. (further south)   NO PROBLEM WITH קול אשה According to the רמ"ע מפאנו*, both men & women were obligated to sing and sang the שירה at the ים סוף. There was no problem with קול אשה being there was no יצר הרע at that time & that place. מאה קשיטה פ"ד                     EVERY YID WITH HIS DOG   According to The מדרש תהלים כ"ב, During קריעת ים סוף, every single Yid owned a dog.
