There are 3 different words for monuments.  


 In the תורה, it's called מצבה
 In נ"ך, it's called ציון*
 In חז"ל, it's called נפש 

*Many people mispronounce ציון  
 with a חולם Tzi-yon
​ ( like ובא לציון- הר ציון)

the proper pronunciation is  
ציון with a שורוק Tzi-yoon  
or Tziyin (Chasidish etc.)
