בכסף מלא --לאחזת קבר PARSHAS CHAYEI SORA

Bava Metzia 31a

This unbelievable story appears in many editions of the Sefer Megaleh Amukos .

In the old cemetery in Krakow, Poland, sits an unmarked grave with the following words: “Here is buried the remains of an unknown man – Yagid olov reiaihu (Let his neighbor tell about him).”

Apparently, the “neighbor” in question is in the next grave over, that of the great tzaddik and author of “Megaleh Amukos”, R’ Nosson Nota Shapiro ZT”L,
and the amazing story of this uniqe gravesite goes as follows:

Many years ago, a young man approached the shammes of the Krakow chevra kadisha with a request that he wished to buy the plot and be buried next to the Megaleh Amukos. The young man was unknown to the shammes or the community and so he dismissed the request outright; how could a simple, unknown man be buried next to one of the greatest sages of the generation? But the young man did not give up.
He took the elderly shammes to the side and said conspiratorially, “Do not worry, I can afford to pay whatever you ask!” At first, the shammes wouldn’t hear of it. But then, on impulse, he mentioned a large sum of money and the man instantly agreed. In fact, he pulled the money out of his purse and held it out. The shammes was well on in years and in a moment of weakness, thought to himself, “So what if I took the money? I deserve it after all my hard work. And besides,
I am over eighty, and this young man is not even thirty. By the time he leaves this world, there will certainly be new board members, and at that time, who will be able to get the money back from me?” So he took the money.

It took fifteen years, but as fate would have it, the young man passed away while the old shammes remained alive. The chevra kadisha members, who did not know about the secret deal with the old man, buried him in another part of the cemetery as they would any unknown person in the community, and the old man thought nothing of it.
That night, the younger man appeared in a dream to the old shammes and demanded that he move him to the plot next to the Megaleh Amukos. They had a deal, he accused, and he even paid money for the exclusive right. The shames paid no attention to the dream, but it repeated itself on the next night, and then a third night. On the fourth night, the deceased issued a warning that if the shammes did not move him, he would be summoned up to the Heavenly Court.
At this the old man became afraid, and he told the story to the esteemed Rov of Krakow, R’ Yoel Sirkis ZT”L, also known as the Bach. The Bach rebuked the old man for taking the money, and told him to distribute it to charity for the benefit of the young man’s soul. But he would not consent to bury the young man next to the Megaleh Amukos.
“But what will I do now?” said the old man with fear. The Bach told him to go to the younger man’s grave and inform him that if there was to be a din Torah in court, it would be here - in the Rov’s home - rather than in Heaven.
On the appointed day, the shammes came to the Bach’s house and saw that a partition had been set up in the study.
The Rov and the shammes sat on one side, and from the other side they heard the voice of the dead man as he argued that he had bought the plot next to the Megaleh Amukos and he wanted to be moved there.
“You are unknown to us,” said the Bach. “Begin by telling us, what is your name?”
"I am forbidden to tell you,” said the dead man. No amount of persuasion could get him to disclose his identity. “If so,” said the Bach finally, “How do we know that you are worthy to be buried next to the great tzaddik?
Therefore, if you cannot tell us your true identity, we cannot fulfill your request.” But the dead man would not give in. Finally, the Bach had an idea. “lf your soul is really so great,” he said, “then move yourself to the plot you want!”

The next day when the members of the chevra kadisha entered the cemetery, they found the young man’s grave empty, and next to the Megaleh Amukos they found a new grave which they had not dug. They decided to erect a stone over the grave, but since they did not know the young man’s name, they wrote only the words: "Yagid olov rei’aihu" - “Let his neighbor attest to him.

R. Binyamin (from) Todelo

R. Binyamin (from) Todelo traveled to Eretz Yisroel in the year 1170.

In his travel diary on מערת המכפלה, he writes, “The Goyim

built six tombs and claim each one is for one of the אבות & אמהות.

They fool the ignorant Goyim who pay money, to approach

the tombs.

For Yidden who come there, and pay them money, they open

a metal gate and allow them to go down a staircase which leads

to another staircase and then to a third staircase. Down there is

the cave where the אבות are actually buried. There are six stone

Matzeivos engraved with the names of Avraham, Sarah, Yitzchok,

Rivka, Yakov, Leah. (no Matzeivah for Adam& Chava) There are

also many barrels filled with bones. These bones are from Yidden

who bring their dead and place them there so they will rest

next to the אבות.

The Rambams White Hair

Parshas Hashavua חיי שרה
Bava Basra -16b - 141a

                                     SHIDDUCH CRISIS

וה' ברך את אברהם בכל, ר"מ אומר שלא היה לו בת

The Ksav Sofer (Parshas Chaya Sarah) writes, that in a letter
the Rambam wrote to his son, The Rambam blames his
daughter for his white hair. It came about from the worries,
he had, finding a Shidduch for her, with someone befitting
his family.

The Ramban writes, had Avraham have had a daughter he would
have had worries whom to give her away to.

The Ksav Sofer explains, even with all of Avraham's riches etc.
it was a blessing of not having a daughter so there won't be
any worries of marrying her off.

Reb Shach On Todays Daf

Daf Yomi
Rosh Hashanah 16b

וא"ר יצחק חייב אדם לטהר את עצמו ברגל

There is a (מחלוקת ראשונים (רמב"ם ורא"ש if
this הלכה is applicable only to the ג' רגלים
or also for other Yomim Tovim ( ר"ה ויו"כ)
does one have to go to the Mikvah.

R Sadya Gaon made a ברכה when coming
out of the Mikvah on Erev Yom Kippur.

The רא"ש argues on the רס"ג and holds there
is no reason to make a Bracha since there
is no mention of this טבילה in all of Shas

The רא"ש claims  that when ר' יצחק said
חייב אדם לטהר את עצמו ברגל is not applicable
בזמן הזה when we still remain a טמא מת.

Therefore since it's only a חומרא and not a
מצוה, one should not make a ברכה on this טבילה

מרן רב שך זצ"ל defends the רס"ג with a Gevaldige
Chap.
רב שך writes, yes, it's true there is no
מצוה חיובית בזמן הזה to go to the מקוה
but there still is a מצוה קיומית when going to
the מקוה even בזמן הזה since this will allow you
to go on the הר הבית.

The same way we make a ברכה on שחיטה
since it is מתיר the meat to be eaten, so too
can you make a ברכה on the טבילה (all year round)
since it is מתיר the entry on the הר הבית

HOW OLD WAS RIVKA WHEN
 SHE MARRIED YITZCHOK?

Tosfos
( יבמות ס"א ע"ב ד"ה וכן הוא) quotes
Harav Shmuel Chasid Mi Shapira* (Speyer)"according to the ספרי, Rivka
was 14 years old when she married Yitzchok".

Tosfos concludes that there are
מדרשות חלוקים
because according to the סדר עולם
she was only 3 years old.

*R. Shmuel Hachasid was one of the first
Chasidei Ashkenaz (Kabbalist) He was the
father of R Yehuda Hachasid and supposedly
wrote the first few Perakim of Sefer Chasidim.
He wasalso the author of the שיר היחוד

** אבימלך said on himself הגוי גם צדיק תהרוג - Rashi in Tehillim quotes the Midrash
 that he was a צדיק.

** When one sees אשת לוט he makes two Brachos. The second Bracha is זוכר הצדיקים.
The כף החיים writes this Bracha refers to לוט.

*** The Midrash writes it was called קרית ארבע because of the four צדיקים
who lived there אברהם,ענר,אשכול, ממרא

Why Cheshvan & Kislev?

Why Cheshvan & Kislev?
The Tur (O.Ch. 428) writes ,”Tishrei is always a full month (30days) and Teves is always a missing (short) month (29days)

The months alternate one month is full and the following is short.
The months of Cheshvan & Kislev are exceptions. Some years both  months are full.(שנה שלמה ). Some years both months are short ( חסרה ) and some years one is full and the other is short (כסדרה)“

The reason for this is to equalize the months. A lunar cycle is
29 days+12hours+ 793 Chalokim (Aprox. ¾ hr.)

The Levush explains why did Chazal pick Cheshvan & Kislev
to change the system of alternating full and short months.and
not any other month.

“The first opportunity we have to add or subtract from the month is on the month of Cheshvan.
We can’t do it on Nissan & Iyar  because the 50th day of Sefirah needs to be on the 6th of Sivan. (by adding or subtracting a day  we will have it on the 5th or the 7th )

From Shavuos till Yom Kippur we need to have 3x 40 days.
to commemorate the 3x 40 days from Moshe Rabeinu standing
on the mountain (Shavuos) and bringing down the Luchos on
Yom Kippur.

Chodesh Tishrei is the king of the Chodoshim and the Month
with Yomim Tovim (ירח האתנים )  we can’t make it a חסר .

Therefore the first opportune time is on the month of Cheshvan.
