84 times in Shas, כאילו עבירות (as if Aveiros)
It is claimed, that eating at a פדיון הבן is
like fasting 84 fast days.
The שדי חמד writes, that there is no
such Mokor for it.
The Ostrovtzer Rebbe zt"l said
that “ כאילו התענה פ"ד תעניתים “as if, he fasted. A “ כאילו
fast "only works for a “ כאילו עבירה”
and not for the real Aveirah ( כל הדר בחו"ל כאילו עובד
ע"ז etc.)
The Rebbe said we find in Shas, 84 כאילו עבירות.
R. Yosef Chaim Zonenfeld zt"l . said learning a Blatt Gemoro works the same as eating food from a Pidyon Haben.
