When do males start fasting  from age 18 years and older and females from age 15 years and older ?

Rabeinu Tam was Gozer  Ta’anis on  20^th of Sivan. for one of the first blood libels against the Yidden in Blois France. (12^th century )

During the Gezeiras Tach v’Tat (Chmielnitzki ym”s-17^th century) ,the Va’ad Arba Artzos were Gozer Ta’anis again, on the 20^th of Sivan.


The Sha’arei Teshuva (O. Ch 580 ) writes, they found the Pinkas (Kehilla Records)  and in it was

written ,“They were Gozer Ta’anis, only for males older than 18 yrs. and females older

than 15 yrs.”

This is in accordance with the Magen Avraham (576:10) who writes, “When we are Gozer Ta’anis Al

Kol Tzoroh Shelo Tavo, The minimum ages for fasting are 15 & 18 years."
