No Distractions

 

 

According to Mori V'Rabi  Harav Hagaon R.Shlomo Miller Shlita:


It is very important to refrain from being מסיח דעת (distracted)
of the חורבן הבית during the שבוע שחל בו ת"ב

The משנה ברורה תקנ"א ס"ק כ"א explains the reason for not doing
the laundry is because it looks like he is מסיח דעת.

If it just looks like being מסיח דעת is wrong to do so קל וחומר
how much more so when one is actually being מסיח דעת"

 

 

 

Our Minhag is to be Machmir

            .משנכנס אב ממעטין בשמחה


According to the Chasam Sofer,(O.Ch. 160) the Halacha of משנכנס אב ממעטין בשמחה refers to only one Halacha, "Not to build a בנין של שמחה in the nine days".(starting ר"ח)

All the other restrictions, Halachically doesn't start on Rosh Chodesh Av but starts at the beginning of the week of Tisha B'av. שבוע שחל בו.

Ashkenazim start the restrictions from Rosh Chodesh because
the Rema says that this is our Minhag ואנו נוהגין להחמיר.



The Mechaber in Shulchan Aruch uses the term of אסור only for שבוע שחל בו.

Even the Rema who holds the restrictions do start from Rosh Chodesh will
usually use the term ואנו נוהגין להחמיר בכל זה מתחילת ר"ח etc.

The reason for it is because both the Rema and the Mechaber hold that
we don't Pasken like רב in the גמרא who holds Halachically it starts from ר"ח.

The קינות compendium




לז"נ זקיני הקדוש ר' משה בן ר' ישעי' הי"ד
נעקד"ה ג' באב ע"י הגרמנים הארורים ימ"ש



עשרה דבריא על הקינות לט' באב


1) The ר"א הקליר wrote 50 קינות for Tisha B'av. We say
only 19 of them. 


2) We say.  3 קינות written for the גזירת תתנ"ו (crusades) 

22  unknown       החרישו ממני  
25 מי יתן ראש  ר' קלונימס ב' יהודה
33 אבל אעורר     ר' מנחם ב' מכיר



3) The ראב"ן wrote re the crusades that it is unheard of
1000 עקידות (killings) per day
 (There was one day when
they killed 1300)

Unfortunately, this is no longer relevant today because
 the Nazis ימ"ש killed as many as 15.000 Jews
each day




4) In the "קינה, "ארזי הלבנון re the  עשרה הרוגי מלכות,
you will only find 8 and not 10   (I don't know why)



5) R.M.B. Weissmandel Zt"l wrote a קינה on the Holocaust that
is recited by many on Tisha B'Av.

R.M.B.W. laments the fact that Yidden accepted the wiedergutmachung funds (
the reparations that the German government agreed to pay).

He laments the mountains of money that can't compensate for
the thousands of valleys of the dead. - The sons who blocked their ears from the cries of their father. The orphan son collects his
inheritance (blood money) from the nation that murdered his father.

The פייטן in קינות לתשעה באב #37 writes,

"בך כל בהמה ועוף חכמו עדי כחמור היה לפנים לבן יאיר חמוריך"

"Within you (Zion) every animal & bird grew wise to the point where even the donkeys were as intelligent as the donkey of (Pinchas) Ben Yair".
(ie: Animals in Eretz Yisroel are smarter than Chutz La'aretz animals)

It is claimed that the most intelligent Arabs are the Palestinians.

Perhaps, the reason for it is because if אוירא דארץ ישראל affects the חמורים, it surely must also affects the עם הדומה לחמור

However, we must apply the Talmudic rule of דיו לבא מן הדין להיות כנדון. 

In a קל וחומר we limit the חומר to the same measure as the קל.
Therefore the קל וחומר teaches us that the Israeli ישמעאלי has
as much intelligence as the Israeli חמור but not more.

    IT NEVER REALLY HAPPENED


    Hrav Shimon Schwab's ZT"L
     קינה on the Holocaust,
    that is recited by many on Tisha B;Av, writes,

    "איך הפכו טורפיהם לברית חלביהם"

    "How did they transform the tormentors into
    soap their fat"


    While the soap-making rumor was widely circulated and published as fact in numerous books and newspaper articles after the war, the myth has been debunked for many decades.[18] Historians such as Deborah Lipstadt have frequently stated: "It is a fact that the Nazis never used the bodies of Jews, or for that matter anyone else, for the production of soap […]. The soap rumor was thoroughly investigated after the war and proved to be untrue."[18] Despite this fact, many "believers" of the myth persist, and Joachim Neander believes that they are unwittingly playing into the hands of Holocaust deniers by giving them a chance to easily debunk the legend, allowing them to cast doubt upon the veracity of the entire Holocaust as such.[18]

    8)  According to the ר' בחיי פ' מקץ   the עשרה הרוגי מלכות 
    were sentenced to a torturous death. However,
    none of them  ended up being killed.

    Somehow there was a mixup with ten Goyim
    who ended up getting killed instead of the
    holy תנאים

    THE SIX MA NISHTANAS


    In some Sephardic Kehillos, they say this  Piyut in their
    Kinos, on Tisha B'av All the 6 stanzas end with מה נשתנה



    אֲלֵיכֶם עֵדָה קְדוֹשָׁה אֶשְׁאַל מִכֶּם שְׁאֵלוֹת מַה נִּשְׁתַּנָּה הַלַּיְלָה הַזֶּה מִכָּל הַלֵּילוֹת

    מַדּוּעַ בְּלֵיל פֶּסַח אוֹכְלִים מַצּוֹת וּמְרוֹרִים עַתָּה הַלַּיְלָה הַזֶּה שָׂבַעְנוּ בּוּז וּמְרוֹרִים עַל הֶרֶג הַכְּשֵׁרִים וְעַל זֶרַע יְשָׁרִים עַל כֵּן בִּבְכִי תַּמְרוּרִים אֶשָּׂא קוֹלִי כְחוֹלוֹת
    מַה נִּשְׁתַּנָּה הַלַּיְלָה הַזֶּה מִכָּל הַלֵּילוֹת

    מַה נִּשְׁתַּנָּה הַלַּיְלָה הַזֶּה מִכָּל הַלֵּילוֹת
    מַדּוּעַ בְּלֵיל פֶּסַח נִגְמֹר תָּמִיד הַהַלֵּל עַתָּה אֲנַחְנוּ בְּלֵיל זֶה נְהִי מִסְפֵּד וִילֵיל כִּי בַּעֲווֹנוֹתֵינוּ עַתָּה לֹא נוּכַל לְהִתְפַּלֵּל כִּי בֵּית מִקְדָּשׁ מִתְחַלֵּל וְגַם חָרְבוּ הֵיכָלוֹת
    מַה נִּשְׁתַּנָּה הַלַּיְלָה הַזֶּה מִכָּל הַלֵּילוֹת
    מַדּוּעַ בְּלֵיל פֶּסַח אוֹמְרִים שְׁפֹךְ בְּזִמְרָה עַתָּה בְּלֵיל זֶה שָׁתִינוּ לַעַן רֹאשׁ וּמָרָה אוֹי כִּי שִׂמְחָה נֶעְדָּרָה דַּרְכֵי צִיּוֹן אֲבֵלוֹת
    מַה נִּשְׁתַּנָּה הַלַּיְלָה הַזֶּה מִכָּל הַלֵּילוֹת


     

                           ברם זכור אותו האיש לטוב                                                                     

    In most Kehilos & Shuls at the end of the קינות, an additional קינה is added, lamenting the Holocaust.
    This Minhag is only about forty years old.

    It all started with one man, a Holocaust survivor, ר' פנחס הערצקא ז"ל. He was a חשובע בעל הבית and a תלמיד חכם, a Pressburger Yid who lived in Brooklyn.  

    Mr. Fred Herzka was bothered that on Tisha B'av in addition to lamenting the Churban Habayis we lament other Churbonos
    (י' הרוגי מלכות crusades)  yet, the greatest Churban of Klal Yisroel
    since theChurban Bais Hamikdash is totally ignored.

    He decided to do something about it. He singlehandedly
    campaigned for  the need to add a special קינה lamenting 
    Churban Europe.

    At first, many people ridiculed him for taking up a 
    lost cause that had no chance of ever happening.

    Many Gedolim were not so eager in supporting him and
    some even opposed him.

    Mr. Herzka didn't take no for an answer. He went to all the
    Gedolim & Rabbonim convincing them the need of adding
    a קינה for the Holocaust. He contacted hundreds of
    Rabbonim seeking their support. 

    Another obstacle Mr. Herzka encountered, was not being
    able to unify all Kehillos to agree to one particular קינה. 

    His solution was to collect & print about 10 different קינות from
    different Gedolim and suggested every Kehilla make their own decision which one to say.

    By now most adopted one of the two Kinos
    R.Shlomo Halberstam Zt"l  Bobover Rebbe and R. Schwab Zt"l.

    Mr. Herzka managed eventually to convince most Gedolim
    to add a קינה. Agudas Yisroel of America publicized the ruling of
    The Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah to add a special קינה
    (Every Kehilla to chose their own)  lamenting
    the greatest Churban since the Churban Habayis.

    This all only happened because of one man's insistence, who ignored all the naysayers
    and wouldn't take no for an answer,

Women who don't usually Daven מעריב should preferably make  an exception when תשעה באב falls on מוצאי שבת and 

Daven מעריב. 


When there is no הבדלה בכוס. (on  מוצש"ק) you should have
at least הבדלה בתפילה.
