Plagues-once in 60-70 years

 

בריך רחמנא שהחיינו וקימנו והיגיענו לזמן הזה
          הרי אני בן שבעים שנה וזכיתי

The ספר מקור חסד adds another reason of his own why to
make a סעודה on the 70th birthday.

We find in Yerushalmi that Hashem brings down a plague to
the world once every 60-70 years to rid the world of ממזרים.

When one celebrates his 70th birthday he must have survived
the plague and a סעודת הודאה is in order.
