כיסוי קרקעות אם
יש להן בית אחיזה אין אי לא
According to Mori V'Rabi Harav Hagaon R Shlomo Miller שליט"א
One may remove and/or return the cover of the toilet tank on שבת.
Even though it is a cover to a מחובר לקרקע {toilet) and should
need a handle* (בית אחיזה) but since it is
easily removed by holding
on to the sides, it is considered as if it has a בית אחיזה
Otherwise, it is like בונה

Not all toilet tanks are made the same. The ones I'm familiar with in the States are heavy and porcelain and just sit there. In Israel they are a lightweight cheap plastic. But they snap into place. One needs to exert the right pressure to remove it. I don't think you can compare the two.
ReplyDeleteIMHO, whenever a ruling is made about something, one first needs to explain what the that something looks like.
I am not sure if R' Miller would allow the Israeli ones.
