ואספת
דגנך
In Eretz
Yisroel, you must go out to work instead of learning Torah.
According to
the Chasam
Sofer*, when the majority of Bnei Yisroel live in
Eretz Yisroel the Mitzvah of Yishuv Eretz Yisroel is applicable.
By working the
fields and growing the holy fruits, you are Mekayam the Mitzvah of Yishuv
Eretz Yisroel.
R.
Yishmael says (Brachos
35b), there is a Mitzvah
of ואספת
דגנך The Torah commands us הנהג בהן מנהג דרך ארץ
The same way one
can not say he has no time to put on
Tefillin because he is busy learning Torah, so too one can not say I
am busy learning Torah and have no time to gather my grain.
The Chasam Sofer adds that perhaps
other trades that benefits and are necessary for mankind
are also part of the Mitzvah of ואספת דגנך
(הנהג בהן מנהג דרך
ארץ) and Mitzvahs Yishuv E.Y.
