The ב"ח O.Ch. 208 writes, “ The Minhag on שבת שירה

is to eat cooked wheat kernels. פוסקים have a problem

with theברכה אחרונה, therefore, it should only be eaten 

during  the meal.”

The Sefer  עוללות אפרים  writes,  the Roshei Teivos of

 - בשבת שירה לאכול חטה

The Sefer נחל קדומים writes that the מן looked like wheat.

ואחת קבעה סעודתא בערב שבת ושתיהן נעקרו

Rashi explains They ate the main meal on Friday

night. They were punished because we Pasken

כבוד יום קודם לכבוד לילה They should have waited

for the daytime with the main Seudah 

Mori V’rabi Harav Hagaon R. Shlomo Miller Shlita 

said*, " It is not proper to serve Cholent

Friday night. Cholent is a designated food of the סעודת היום.

Eating it at night , violates כבוד יום קודם לכבוד לילה."
