Minhagim That Make No Sense

The two מנהגים that makes no sense

The ערוך השולחן writes that the absence of ברכת כהנים every day in Chutz La’aretz has no legitimate reason. It is as if a בת קול from Heaven proclaimed that we should not perform it.

Two Gedolim of the previous generation attempted to change this practice. Both failed — and each concluded that it must beמן השמים that the minhag should remain unchanged.

The second minhag that seems equally puzzling is the customnot to perform ברכת כהנים on Yom Tov that falls on Shabbos. This practice has since been abolished in almost all places, as its reasoning was never truly understood.
