# 191 MISSING

The הגהות ברוך טעם (Frankel) (O.Ch.580) writes, he saw a כתב יד that "on the 9th of טבת, Shimon Hakalfus died. He helped the Yidden when they had big צרות, therefore חז"ל established the day he died as a fast day". Shimon Hakalfusi also known as Shimon Kaifa and better known as Peter the Apostale.  (first pope) There is a מחלוקת ראשונים, If Peter was one of ours, planted in Rome as a secret agent, to save the Yidden. Some even claim he authored "נשמת" נשמת- ואילו פינו – עד הנה- מי ידמה – שוכן עד (backward שמעון) and also the סדר עבודה said on Yom Kippur.  The דקדוקי סופרים quotes a גירסא in Rashi, that both Paul & Peter led the Christians, only to save the Yidden from  persecution. They for themselves were faithful Yidden.  In the first print of the ספר חסידים #191, he calls Shimon Kaifa a צדיק.  This סימן was removed hence in many prints   סימן קצ"א is missing. After #ק"צ comes #קצ"ב. (some have #קצ"א but no mention of  Shimon Kaifa. The   discussion is, what name to call a converted Meshumad) There are newer editions where the original was reinstated. (מוסד הרב קוק) The מחזור ויטרי (Talmid of Rashi) strongly opposes this opinion He refers to Peter as  אותו נבל שמעון פטר חמור. He also writes "whoever claims that נשמת was authored by Peter will need to bring a  חטאת שמינה (fat חטאת) when the בית המקדש will be rebuilt".       ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------                     ANSWER TO RIDDLE In this week's Parsha (ויחי), we find יעקב Bentching  3 generations, 1) his children -                  שבטים 2) his grandchildren-          אפרים ומנשה 3) his great-grandchildren   ? According to the Midrash אסנת, Yosef's wife was a daughter of דינה & שכם and was adopted by פוטיפר. Hence, אפרים ומנשה were also great-grandchildren of Yaakov.
