כ"ה תשרי יום פטירת רבינו משה סופר (החתם סופר) זצ"ל  On כ"ה תשרי, the Yahrzeit of the חתם סופר זצ"ל, thousands will flock to his ציון and light candles there. However, perhaps, lighting candles at his gravesite might be considered לועג לרש.. (mocking the deceased) The Chasam Sofer שו"ת ח"ו: כ"ז writes he is unaware of the so-called מצוה רבה (sarcastic) to light a נר נשמה at home or even at the קבר. According to the Ch. Sofer, the concept of a  נר ה' נשמת אדם -נר נשמה applies only when the candle serves a functional purpose, lighting up a Shul or a Bais Midrash.  A  נר של בטלה serves no purpose and is qustionable if it may be lit on Yom Tov. (שו"ת כתב סופר או"ח ס"ה)                          .
