According to Rav S.Y.
Elyashiv zt"l:
When saying Kiddush Levana,
one may say Sholem Aleichem to
someone who is in middle of the Bracha
and will not answer back Aleichem Sholom.
The Nusach of Kiddush Levana
only calls for to say Sholom Aleichem.
The answer back of Aleichem Sholom is not part of Kiddush
Levana.
It's done as Derech Eretz to
answer back when someone wishes you
Sholom Aleichem.
"When saying Kiddush Levana, one may say Sholem Aleichem to someone who is in middle of the Bracha and will not answer back Aleichem Sholom....."
ReplyDeleteI can accept that technically, theoretically speaking. However, lemayseh, one should be careful with such an action, as some people on the receiving end may not realize that they shouldn't answer it in middle of their bracha, or they might instinctively respond, causing a hefsek. Therefore I think it should not be done if there is a viable alternative. And even if there are no other people around, perhaps it should not be done, especially if the person on the receiving end is not a talmid chochom, who may mistakenly respond bisoch habracha.
In such a case, maybe either 1) don't say it at all, mechashash lifnei iveir, 2) wait until he finishes the bracha, 3) say it quietly/at a distance, where he doesn't hear it, so will not be tempted to respond.
