The
translation of “ רב בניו “ is not the
majority of his children.
In the
Megillah(5:11) it says Haman told his wife and friends
את כבוד עשרו ורב בניו .
The Ibn Ezra
explains the wordרב with two Peshatim .
a.
The greatness of his sons
b. The
multitude of his sons
In the Piyut
of Maoz Tzur we can say the same two Peshatim.
a.
The great sons were hung
b. The
sons who were from the multitude were hung
Some one
wrote in, an answer he heard. (probably Purim Torah)
The 10 sons
were decapitated first and then hung without their
heads. רב בניו refers to the majority
of the bodies of the 10, were
hung
(headless)
